Running rich cuz of fuel pump?
I recently put a GSR engine in my VX hatch.. and it still have the VX fuel pump in it and im running rich.. Do you guys think if i put the GSR pump in it will fix the prob? It never ran rich when it was in my teg.. so i assume this could be the prob.. I'm gonna change the pump soon anyway.. but im just wondering if this could cause the prob.. TIA guys

umm....if anything you would be running LEAN now, not rich.
It's not a fuel pump issue if you're sure you're running rich and you're using the stock VX pump.

Re: Running rich cuz of fuel pump? (hot_EG)
I had it checked.. I'm running at 5 - 9 psi over what i should be. And im throwing the RICH code... And since im using the wrong fuel pump it could cause the opposite of what you guys think. It could try to compensate for the fuel the engine needs.. and, because of that, give TOO much fuel. We will see when i change the pump.. Like i said.. When the engine was in my GSR with my GSR fuel pump, it was running fine.. No codes. At least now i have a good excuse to put the gsr pump in.. i can run at optimal now!

I am having the same problem, I have a gsr in my civic coupe ex, And I got a check engine light, so I took it to autozone for the free diagnostics test and it gave a code of "too rich". I'm running the stock fuel pump, so maybe if I put a gsr fuel pump in it will fix it.

guys the fuel pump only send fuel to the rail. the regulatr tells it how much pressure to leave there for the injectors to use.

a good rule of thumb that both and I and all my friends use for hyrbid cars with codes is this. If you get a code, reset the ecu and see if you get it again. On bs codes like emissions, or fuel enrichment it is good to use. I would suggest resetting the car and seeing if you get it again. You might have run rich for a couple of seconds, just long enough to throw the code. I wouldn't suggest taking this method with something serious like knock sensor, but for emissions codes and fuel richness codes it won't hurt.

We have reset the the ecu and i still throw the code. And when i had my exhaust custom bent, i also had the guy run a test to see what psi they were runnin, cuz i knew i was runnin rich.. and he said it was a constant 5 - 9 psi over... I dunno.. I'm just gonna see once i change the pump! Thanx guys, more opinions are welcome!

I changed the pump today and took her out for a test run. I was out for about 20 - 30 minutes.. I ran her pretty hard just tempting her to throw that code.. But nothing! I need to do a lil more investigating.. but i redlined the crap out of her gears and usually when i do that 4 or 5 times she throws the code. I'll keep you guys posted. I need to race my friend soon.. Last time we went out i threw the code within 5 minutes.

TTT Let us know if it pops up again. I'm currently battling a code 45 (too lean or rich) and am thinking that it's because of the pump. I'm using the stock DX pump on a b18c5.

Yea, an update would be cool. I know my code 45 could be caused by so many different things but eliminating each possibility one at a time is the only way to effectively troubleshoot. The cost of an ITR fuel pump or new O2 sensors kind of makes me want to be sure that they could be causing it, before going ahead and buying them.
Good luck on your end BTW!

Re: Running rich cuz of fuel pump? (96ek)
Sorry it took me so long guys.. but i am NOT runnin rich.. I have a bad O2 sensor.. so looks like i get to shell out some major $$$ to fix this prob.. I might just go up to a jumk yard and pick up a new one.. But i have been getting no better than 24 mpg recently.. i should be getting closer if not more than 30.. but this explains it!

Re: Running rich cuz of fuel pump? (Hatchy-Ownzjo0)
hmmmmm. I have to get around to checking my damn O2, especially after reading this. I know recently my gas mileage has dropped significantly, with no driving technique changes.
Since I've dropped my fuel pressure (last weekend), code 45 hasn't come back on and my mileage has been slowly going up from 20mpg, back to around 25. I still think I need an ITR feul pump and possibly a new O2 but I'll leave it alone until a code gets thrown again. DAMN OBD2!
