Possible V-Tec problem

Possible VTEC problem
Ok guys this is for a friend of mine but he has a CRX with a 1st gen B16 and he had everything working properly for a while and then he was removing some wires and cut something that shorted out and fried his ECU. He bought a chipped ECU and now it won't go past 3000 RPM's but if he runs the stock ECU from the CRX it will run properly without VTEC but if he puts a VTEC Controller on the stock CRX ECU then it will only rev to like 3000 again so please help me out. Thanks

try running 2 direct wires from the vtec solenoid (solenoid & pressure) to the computer. and make sure you ground the soleniod. sounds like theres something wrong with the wiring.

It's always a good idea to remove the negative battery cable when doing anything electrical to avoid things like that.

The chipped ECU could be bad but it sounds more like a wiring problem to me. The reason it won't rev higher is because it is in limp mode. If the wires he originally cut were not repaired, I would start there and re-do that first off. From there, remove the VTEC controller and rewire any changes from that back to stock as well. If you don't know what you're doing, let someone else who does take a look at it before you end up doing anymore damage.

Do you think that he might have shorted something inside the solenoid maybe. I am not sure what all he has done to it but I will suggest to him that he run a wire directly to the ECU from the solenoid. Also are the solenoids interchangeable from B's to D's or does it have to be one for a first gen B. Thanks
