Is it possible to run a p72 distrib and ecu on a b18b1 as a temporary measure?
ok, this is a pretty odd question but i've been researching and haven't found any definite answers.
my b20vtec project is taking forever and im taking my time with it, so i'm considering putting a stock b18b in my eg as a temporary measure while the b20 is getting built.
my questions are these.
1) i am able to buy a b18b1 motor complete except for distributor. i have a p72 obd1 distrib and also a d15b7 obd1 distrib. can i use either one? i've read that it is possible to use the p72 distrib.
2) i have a p72 obd1 ecu and a d15b7 ecu. can i use either of these? for instance, can i use the p72 ecu with the p72 distrib on the b18b1? or, could i use the d15b7 ecu with the p72 distrib on the b18b1?
i know these are odd questions but im looking for a temporary measure to get the car running for a few months.
thanks guys

you can use the p72 dist. on a LS but one of the bolts won't line up.
it would be safer to run the p72 ecu than the sohc ecu but you will throw a code for vtec and knock. Just don't dog the motor.

thank you for the info i would be taking it easy on the motor for sure. it is an iffy setup tho. if i could find a b16a longblock that'd be great but they're difficult to find around here.

im pretty sure the d15b7 ecu will be safer youo should have any codes.... look on the old hybrid board archives) in the b20 tech area under the dyno section. im pretty sure they used a dx ecu (d15b7) on a b20 (same as LS). i would just try and up the fuel pressure up a bit to compensate for the displacement difference.
so you should get no codes and a safe redline....

thanks man
i already have a walbro in it. i'll be running stock injectors and possibly an adj fpr. it's possible to run the p72 distrib with the d15b7 ecu?

as long as the plugs line up... the signal isnt going to be any different
did you find those dyno sheets i was talking about showing the dx ecu? interesting huh
