Poor Mans swap
Hey guys,
I've been reading honda-tech for quite some time now but i just didnt bother posting or becoming a member since well...i really didnt know too much and i was a bit of a ricer (werent we all at one point?)
Anyways this spring im taking off my bodykit and going for the clean look. Currently I have a lame-o D15B7 and Im going to be doing a swap pretty soon.
I located a D16Z6 for a good amount and I figure im going to go with it and in the summer go FI (turbo). I've looked around honda-tech and tried searching elsewhere and i havnt really found much information about swapping an EG D-series with another D-series since most people go with a b-series engine.
So what im trying to ask here is. Are there any guides or anything like that that would help me with swapping a D16Z6 into my car? (93 civic DX hatch)
I'll also be doing the auto-manual conversion too.(please dont tell met o sell the car and buy antoher..thats not an option)
I know i can use the same motor mounts and axels
I also know that i'll have to wire VTEC.
What else do i need to do? Guides? Help? Anything?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Re: Poor Mans swap (Redline130)
I've read that long ago, I think that's a horrible article to follow. The best way to do an auto to manual swap into an EG is to remove the auto tranny bracket from the frame and weld in an auto one. You could get one from a junkyard or even buy it new from Honda. Get the hydraulic lines, clutch master cylinder and pedal board while you're at it, all from the same car if possible. You can also get these parts from a 94-01 Integra.
It's really not that hard to do the conversion as some people make it out to be. If you don't have a welder you'll need to have someone weld the frame bracket for you which is really easy to do. After that it requires you to wire around the interlock switch and the reverse lights, that's about it. HCP and Place racing make a mount for a B swap auto to manual which also might work, but I would rather have it done with the stock frame bracket and mount personally.
You could follow most of the write-ups for a B series motor swap if you can't find one that focuses on the Z6. It's really not that much different, you're doing the same procedures. Even the wiring will be near the same as most B VTEC's.

Re: Poor Mans swap (Dyzee)
I've pretty much made a list of things I will need for my auto to manual swap ..just need some other info ont he swap. but I'll look into the b-series swap and try to see how well that goes.
heres the list for anyone that may want to know:
5 speed transmission
shifter
shift linkage
manual ECU
manual starter
flywheel
hydraulic lines
clutch (pressure plate, disc)
pedal assembly
clutch master cylinder
slave cylinder
shift ****
shift boot
Front Tranny Bracket
miscellaneous nuts and bolts
Am i missing anything here?
Edit: Some of this stuff will come with the D16Z6...just posting everything just in case someone wants to do JUSt the autoi---> manual swap.

Re: Poor Mans swap (Dyzee)
other than the auto to manual conv. it's a straight forward swap really.
you'll have to run that VTEC wire since you have a 93 Civic w/ a D15B7.
and of course swap out the ECU, nothing else really.
