go to the referee and make it legal. just have everything hookep up as the usdm version. and you should be able to pass the visual and then hope to pass the tailpipe.
Bad news, as I think you already know.
In talking to the Referee here in the San Fernando valley, the second that they know it's a JDM, they will bounce you out the door. They WILL know and it's worthless to lie.

Hey, I dont wanna be spreading what may be false info, but i had the same question. I called the Beruo of Automotive Repair (BAR) in San Cramento and asked them if a JDM engine will pass, they connected me to a Ref Station in the (714) are code. I talked to the tech guy anbd explained the situation (Legit bought motor, got the receipt, newer then car, hooked up right) He said that as long as the motor is brought to the USDM emissions specs as outlined in the Helms manual I can pass. Now i have not gone down there yet, so this is just a conversation i had over the phone, take it for what its worth.

Dashu;
Don't take anybody's word as gospel, and that includes mine.
If in doubt, go to the source!
I'd recommend that you find out where the local Referee station is and go by there to meet with the individual that runs it. This is the person that you will have to deal with in the end.
Take a different car and plan on spending as much time as it takes to be able to talk to him between his working on other cars. (you can't make a "reservation" to just talk) RESPECT HIS TIME.
Tell him what you plan to do and ask what he will require out of you. Have everything outlined and written down on paper. Take notes from what he says.
