Place Racing Poly Mounts in EK... Necessary???
I saw these Place Racing poly mounts on the JDMHondaParts website. Are they worth getting for my B18C-R swap into a '96 hatch?
They say "A replacement for the faulty OEM EK timing belt-side mount which is known to tear when hybriding an EK.."
BTW, I already have the 3 Prothane Poly motor mount inserts.

Re: Place Racing Poly Mounts in EK... Necessary??? (spoonek9)
Here is my story:
When I first did my swap, for some reason all these little dimples started appearing on the hood. Whenever I shifted hard, I noticed that my hood jumped violently. Weird I thought. I pop the hood and see a brownish juice all over the underside of the hood. The valve cover looked like it was scraping the frame of the hood. Hmmm...why is my motor sitting so high, I thought?
Looked at the mount in question and it was torn to hell. The torque from the motor broke it in half and squirted the mount juice all over my engine bay (might I add it's impossible to get off).
So yeah, I'd recommend that little mount...at least if you want to save your hood.

heres my story. look at my JUN mods. my motor mount broke only when i didnt have the lower AC mount on. yes it did break, yes it did leak that brown (impossible to get off) **** all over. i think if u bought the poly engine mounts it would not break the upper drivers side mount. i have the poly mount inserts and the car vibrates at idle. not bad, just a bit more than stock.

i have the prothane mount inserts, and for that cam gear mount on the driver's side of the motor, they keep popping out of their "spot". all in all, i haven't had as much trouble as fowler with my mounts, but i would suggest getting that piece. just be prepared to feel a little bit of vibration in your car!!!
good luck,

Thanks for your responses...
Justin,
Did you get the Prothane mount set for the '99-00 Civic Si? I got that set and I am wondering if I got the wrong one since I am doing a B18C into my 6gen hatch.

you're right, get the 99-00 civic Si prothane mount insert kit. i think some companies even make 2 different kinds:
1.)upper mount kit
2.)lower mount kit
not sure, but i suggest the prothane brand over the energy suspension brand. i had to shave a lot off of some of those energy suspension inserts for a friend because his wouldn't fit right out of the box (YES they were the right part number!!!)
but since you brought this topic up about the new mount (the cam gear one) i say spend the money and get it...i sympathize for fowler and anyone else who has broke a mount and had that fluid squirt all over their engine bay, and i've seen what it leaves for a mark. get that mount (the cam gear one) and the rest i'd say go with the inserts. even though i'm currently using the inserts on that one mount (the cam gear one) it still doesn't seem right to me. please make a wise decision, and good luck man.

Any preferences between HASport and Place Racing?
It looks totally different than anything that's currently in the market, it's gonna be dope. Hopefully I'll be able to test it out on my Civic hatch very soon.
If you can wait, i'd suggest you hold off until the kit from HASports is out, instead of buying the Place Racing one.

Why are you in favor of the HASport one versus the Place Racing. Have you heard negative responses about the Place Racing one?

Re: Place Racing Poly Mounts in EK... Necessary??? (spoonek9)
Well...as you can see above, the Place Racing driverside mount is just like OEM, but with a urethane center. I've heard of people actually cracking the mount, where pieces were welded together (on the legs). Consider a b18c Spec R engine swap, which will rev higher and produce more torque than a standard b16, and the task of the engine mounts will undoubtedly be increased.
The HASport version will be solid billet. Plus, the engineer who's in charge of making it is a good friend of mine who's very skilled.

Thanks for the scoop DC...
Do you know when this mount will be available and how much? I am getting close to swapping my motor...
BTW, how do you like those A-Sports front support bars?

Is the Place Racing mount a modified stock mount?
i.e., a stock mount with polyurethane center
just wondering...
