EK Hood Clearance with a GSR.. WTF.
So.. this is weird, but I'm having some problems with the hood clearance on my 1996 Civic with a GSR swap. The hood is fine when it's closed and whatnot, don't get me wrong.
The problem lies when I drive/mash on the motor, the motor keeps hitting the same spot on my hood. It hits where the front right of my valve cover is. I tried to raise the hood, but then my fitment looks fawked and sometimes it'll still collide.
What to do now..? My friend suggested to use billet mounts. I'm using stock OEM mounts, except for an Innovative billet rear mount.

I have the same set up but with avid racing mounts and my hood clearance is fine. I had that same problem with my eg and stock mounts so get some after market mounts and you'll be fine. Hope this helps gl.

sounds like ur mounts are worn and getting alot of engine movement. id swap out mounts. they dont have to be billet or anything fancy i got my ebays ones and they have been great for 2 yrs

You need new mounts, dont have to be aftermarket, however at least get a aftermarket driverside mount. he stock mounts are liquid filled and break quite often.
My guess is thats what you did.

Free fix untill u got money for motor mounts would be put washers where your hood mounts would be, Keeps engine bay cooler and gives u more clearance.
But motor mounts would be the best solution

do u have the lower TORQUE MOUNTS installed? this will decrease the movement of ur motor upon acceleration dramatically. u can also get polyurethane inserts for them.

if you want a quick temporary fix go to any body shop or home depot maybe and buy a couple tubes of urethane(in a tube like caulk). support your engine and remove 1 mount. take that mount and tape 1 side of it. fill it with caulk and let it dry for a day. then do the next mount. pretty much your making solid mounts out of urethane but they dont last long and its a temp fix. worth a shot

interesting replies.
cut the hood webbing -- cheap and easy.
washers to raise the back of the hood an inch. costs of washers (20) and 4 bolts.
new poly mounts. best fix.
torque mounts. bandaid fix for bigger problem (failing OEM mounts.)
getto-as$ polyurethane glue fix. erm..... right up there with a heinekin keg can intake. but hey, if it works right?
best solution - get new aftermarket poly-inserted new engine mounts. torque mount too maybe if you're **** about things.

btw - i read somewhere dyno proven - every 15degrees you drop the engine bay temp, you gain one HP. could be true or not, but i don't have hood probs and i have washers propping the rear of my hood up just for supposed power gains.
those numbers could have something to do with cooling the intake charged air for denser oxygen content.

^There was a thread somewhere around he and the results were it only dropped like 1 or 2 degrees. you may see different results with a boosted car, but the gains arent really worth it to many.
propped hoods look terrible.

I've been running homebrew window-weld poly torque mounts for a couple of years with no problems. They do reduce movement somewhat.
After a month or so, it looked like the poly started to come out of the mounts a little bit, but it didn't move any further, and they're still really solid.
I've never done the main mounts though, so I can't speak for those.

yeh no doubt the ghetto mounts work.
if i didn't need new mounts for my car anyways, i'd make those and post a faq.
cheap performance, just the thing.
i'd rock the keg can intake if i needed an intake.
