Default pistons: pr3 vs p73-00

besides the coating on the type-r pistons whats the difference between the two? Since they yeild about the same compression in a gsr motor(pr3:11.345 and p73-00:11.333) wouldnt it be better to get the pr3 since you can get a set for alot less? Im choosing between the two because i can get a set pr3, brand new, for $210 compared to $275 for p73-00. i just want to no whats the difference between the two besides compression. thanks

PR3 and P30 are relatively the same piston... but both are higher compression than the P73 ITR piston. You'll be looking at around 11.7-11.9:1 cr with the PR3/P30 pistons. With P73 ITR pistons, 11.0-11.3:1 cr.

i dunno where p30 came from, but pr3 and USDM p73, the difference is that teflon-like coating, the molydublum coating or something like that, i forget what its exactly called. On the ITR, they have that teflon-like **** around the piston skirt which is supposed to reduce friction.

I dunno how usefull that coating is, but im guessing thats why it costs more, as that is the only difference between the 2.

theres actually a difference between the pr3 piston compared to the p30 piston.
p30 is a jdm honda part only, it came only in jdm motors. it yields a higher compression.
in a gsr it is 11.59:1 compression.

pr3 which is available here through honda dealerships.
yields a 11.37:1 compression.
