Default PGM tester wont recognize new PCM!

I know its a long shot but here goes. Im preparing to swap in my J32A2 into my 98 AV6. I have a 00 PCM that im trying to use for the swap. As you know i need it because it has DIS. Anyway, Im trying to save a tow ( along with the hassle ), so im trying to reprogram my key to the new PCM "before doing the swap" then just switching back to my old one to drive until i actually to the swap. I was at honda, and we couldnt get the tester to recognize the new PCM at all. It just said make sure the key is turned on. I thought i had a bad PCM and got another one to no avail. I have the ETM and cant find any reason for this. I thought it should at least recognize that a PCM is plugged in. It sees the PCM thats already in the car. Obviously it couldnt start the car because of the DIS, but i thought it could be programed to recognize the key. Im perplexed...dazed and confused

You need to provide the HDS with the vin for your new ecu, not the vin for your car.
