Default My poor little D15B7

hey, ive been researching about the mini-me for around 2 months now, and i have a question of sorts with some data comparisons. I read a criticizing thread about how the mini me is far too harsh on rod/stroke ratio, yet i also read that the D15B7 has a really good rod/stroke ratio. im wondering if this will be worth my while... my goal, is to build a quick daily driver with as much HP as possible without giving myself a hard time, i realy can t swap engines, i like my B7. its a 92 civic dx sedan, if thats important. many thanks

just swap in a Z6 motor and tranny............

yes, I know how to play a D15B7.

135 hp from a 102 hp motor with simple bolt-ons.

R/S ratio of a D16 is 1.52
R/S ratio of a D15 is 1.59

All of the mini-me info you'll ever need:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053

I was able to shave a full second off of my quarter mile time with my mini me...I had a better 60ft tho...but the mini me is a good 1/2-3/4 of a second faster in the quarter than the stock B7. However, the gears are still long as hell. For all of the money I spent...I probably should've done a D16Z6 or JDM D15B swap. You can get one from hmotorsonline.com with a tranny for like $600.

The main difference between the Z6 (and JDM D15B) and Z6/B7 mini-me are the gear ratios. The Z6 has a shorter geared tranny...which allows for MUCH better acceleration...i'm talking like another half second in the quarter mile. So...unless you're gonna do the Z6 head AND tranny...i'd recommend just doing the full Z6 swap.

so despite not wanting to swap my engine at all, id haveto to feel anything, or maybe i could just change the tranny along with the head? maybe i can change the tranny, but i really would prefer to keep the B7. what would need to change for the tranny to go in? anything, or would it just bolt in? b/c if i swap in the head and i would just need to put in the tranny to feel it then im willing to do that. thanks again everyone.

EX/Si tranny is a BIG improvement, along with a CRX Si cam (need a adj. cam gear!) and a Z6 intake manifold, you'll be ahead of the Z6 stock motors.

Now one of my close ratio trannys, really wakes up a D15B7 to it potenial.

DX to EX tranny = .3 second faster
EX to close ratio = .3 second faster
Drop rear bumper cover = .2-.3 second faster

easy ain't it?

My D15B7 will be reborn from a 5 year rest on the engine stand about summertime.

12.0:1 on stock rods and pistons.

thanx bro, its good to know not everyone says chuck the D15. its ballsy as it is, i can only imagine releasing its potential...ok, so what ur saying is i would need to have:

-Z6 mini me
-Z6 intake (how about an aftermarket, say edelbrock?)
-Z6 header
-SI/EX tranny(from the same year?these are standards, right? i know, i should know this)
CRX cam (umm, im at a loss at this, a stock cam? from what year?)
adjustable cam sprocket (i guess its time to learn what to do with cams!! )

anything else i may need to awaken the D15B7 w/out compromising the engine or daily driver ability? sorry i seem so dumb. gotta learn somehow. Thanks yet again.

wait a minute...no mini me? i thought that there are benefits to the mini me all across the power field? how would i not benefit from a mini me? my engine is at 175,000, i kinda figured that a head swap would be a good thing for the vehicle...so exactly how would the cam help it? is it bigger or something like that?

the motor you want to dig this cam out of is from a CRX Si. the D16A6 motor.

The cam will not work with a Z6 head.

Allrighty, so thats it, everyones in agreement that I should not do a mini me and just get the cam? When I was working on v8s the cams were a bit difficult to understand, but there werent many "adjustable" gear like imports have, are these easy to use? if anyone has time, can they explain how exaclty to install an import cam? I think I know, but I need to be absolutely sure before I do anything. Oh, is this gonna make my fuel econmy suck? I was told it might and I figured I'd ask first.

Ummm, ive heard of D15B7s engines not being able to take on a cam like that...can anyone say otherwise? i really really don t want to blow the motor, i want to keep it original block.

D15B7 took the cam just fine........

118 whp, most stock SOHC VTEC's with CAI only get 111-112 whp.

How is the Z6 manifold superior to the B7 manifold? I have both in front of me and I admit I haven't taken a set of calipers to them to measure (because I don't have a set) and from what I can tell, only the markings on the back of the manifold are different.

Is it something inside that I can't determine because they are so dirty from all the greasy filth?

I have a CDN B7 and CDN Z6 manifold if that matters?

The A6/B7 runners go oval-round-oval

The Z6 runners are oval the whole length

Pics to show the difference.......notice where the split is....
