Default my b20b is in and I have a question.

Hey guys I just got my car back from putting in a b20b into my 91 CRX Si. I realize that there is going to be some vibration because of the Hasport Urethane mounts, but mine seems redicouls. Its actually smooth at idle, but if you are driving and you decelerate by engine braking, the whole car vibrates like crazy. I think that I am going to have to rip my interior out because its already making the dash rattle. Thanks for your help!

Yeah the motor mounts are pretty dam aggressive, but for braking, your should check your rotors, and brakes, because your decelerating. But IT DOES shake everything in your dam car, including your spare tire...

I have the same setup, and yes it rattles. Wait till it gets cold. Many different rattles at many different RPMs... I have cams, too... Also, 2 liter motors without balance shafts are not known for thier smoothness, they have a unique... "feel"

bummer.

i bet you paid some nice greenbacks for the Hasport mounts.

i have a B20 (VTEC) installed using stock JDM mounts and it is smooth as glass upto 8k...

t..

dunno where you got that "Also, 2 liter motors without balance shafts..." mumbo from?!?

I got it from the fact that the B20 is a 2 liter motor that does not have balance shafts. You have a nicely put together b20-VTEC, from what I understand. Not really the same a a stock untouched B20 now is it?

so i guess my question is "what is balance shafts?"

maybe i have misunderstood you.

sorry.

do other Honda engines have balance shafts?

I actually don't think/know of any Honda engines that have balance shafts. The b20, however is the only 2 liter engine I know of that honda makes...O.K...the F20 but that's different... But, much like an SR20, it has a "Different" feeling. Oh, and sometimes I wish there was a JDM engine mount option for us in the U.S. BTW, The JDM mounting style would use 4 mounts, correct? With rubber? ...I bet that's nice.

thats what i thought!

yeah, maybe the 2.0 has a different feel - for sure - I LOVE IT!

but im certain if you used poly hasport mounts on a b16 or b18 it would still vibrate the fillings out of your back teeth!

my mounts are basically custom adaptations of JDM DA6 Integra mounts (MIG welded to chassis) and i use 4 rubber engine mounts plus one 'torque' mount at the front RHS that attaches to the gearbox which prevents torque flex under heavy acceleration (which is stock OEM)

it is smooth as...

could you guys mix and match from a Del Sol or something? (i dont know much about USDM mounts - but im sure there could be some vibrational relief there...)

i still son't know what a "balance shaft" is. My b20 sure doesn't vibrate. It did however, come with a slightly heavier and bigger crank pulley, for better dampening, in part, perhaps. Course i have my teg pulley on there.

Actually, my B20 runs quite smooth. MUCH more so than the B18B it replaced. In fact, it runs smoother than just about anything on the freeway.

Heh--

JalopySiR--I read the first line of this thread 91 CRX... B20... vibration... and I thought: "Alex". Scrolled down, and there you were!!! Pretty funny.
