Default making a B16 into a B18

If I wanted to increase the displacement of a B16 to that of a B18 what would I need? Or is it just best to get a B18 short block and put the B16 head on it?

three options:
1. resleeve the b16 block and bore it out to a 1.8L. about $800
2. buy the crower stroker kit $1600
3. buy a 1.8L short block $300 for LS $1000 for GSR/ITR

All B16's have a bore x stroke of 81.0 X 77.4 and all B18C's are 81.0 X 87.2 As you can see they both have the same bore but different stroke. I believe all that is needed to increase displacement to 1.8 would be a B18C crank and rods.

Will not work. THe b18c has a higher deck height, and if you used the b18c crank and rods you would get pistons sticking out of your head.

You could use b18c crank, but you would have to use custom shorter rods, and you would then have an even worse R/S ratio then a b18.

yeah the 1.8 blocks have a 270mm deck height.
and the 1.6's have a 263mm deck height.
ok gsr rods are 137.9 mm long
and b16a's are 134mm long
so there is no real hybriding you can do with the rods and cranks to get a 1.8 liter. The piston will still stick out about 4mm's Iam bad at math so dont kill me if iam wrong.
just get a gsr block!!!!

Just buy a USDM b20z or a JDM b20b, put your head on it, and rule the world. Like Dice said, "Why beat around the bush when you can fill that muthafuca up."

What displacement would a b16 have it it was bored out to B20 bore (84mm?) Is there any reason Endyne (or similar) off the shelf aftermarket b20 would not fit? It seem that this set-up could be had fairly cheaply since b16 blocks are so plentiful and would have the ideal r/s ratio. If one was building a motor for bost, wouldn't this be the same price as buying a b18c block and having it sleeved?

btw, if you repsond "just get a gsr block" please include the reasons for that opinion.

If it were possible. Which, I dont think it it. Even with new sleeves I don't think it could be bored to 84mm.....I could very well be wrong, but I don't know if it would be as effective as a b20b/z block. From what I hear, honda made them extra strong with special supports for the sleeves.

b16 bored to 84 mm 1707cc's

Why just buy a GSR block for 1.8 liters of displacement? Lower cost and better R/S ratio of a stroked b16. Plus some of the stroker kits I hear require removal of the piston oil squirters, which are something that helps you from blowing up your engine.

With New Sleeves, a B-Series can Actually be bored to 87mm, but 85mm is safe.
I honestly wouldn't go much bigger than 84.5mm, because then it gives you a .5mm Clean-Up Hone, if you **** something up. 87mm is N\A Only...

I personally am planning a 2.0 Liter B18C1 with 84.5mm GE Sleeves. I have a goal of 20PSI on that Setup for the short-term...It's all about tuning.

You can either:

get a gsr/type r block, do a ls/vtec setup, or get a stroker kit.

so are you saying that i could bore out a b16 to about 84mm which would be a 2.0 liter motor..with stronger sleeves resulting in having more boost, am i right? i'm confused here..someone help me out..how much would it cost to sleeve a motor..or would the b18b be a better choice?

if u make a b16 a 2.0 it seems like it wouldnt be that reliable.if u ould do it at all..personaly I would just get a gsr block and stroke it...I think lisa kubos is a 1.9 liter....she said she was gonnna try and stroke it to a 2.0 but the sleeves would be to thin....just my .02
