Default LS/VTEC Questions !!!??!?!?!?!?!

Im looking at buying a GSR w/ an ls/vtec installed.
I have a turbo civic, so motor is not my forte and im somewhat ignorant to knowledge about all motor setups, so please excuse me if I am asking stupid questions, as I dont know the answers to them....

The Ls/Vtec has del sol b16 pistons and an Si (B16) head.

THe guy says that the head has ls valvesprings in the b16 head, and for that reason you can only rev to 7200 rpms, and he is running a p72 GSR computer. What my question is...what would I have to do to the motor to get it to be the beast that i hear so much about, and bring out the potential of the motor? Simply swap the valvesprings for ITR's? and then get an ITR computer or a chipped ECU? Or is revving the motor on an LS/Vtec unsafe?

Also how reliable are LS/Vtec's?

He said that the motor was built by one of the best builders on the east coast, and the car runs well, I drove it. However 7200 shift points, im not too crazy about..

Thanks for your help...

You are on the right track. Change the valvesprings to ITR and change to ITR cams once you at it too. For ecu go with a chipped P28 and just shift at 8200 area. Unless you feel like exploring the upper RPM range.

ls/vtec motors arent really built for high-rpm usage... the ls block, unless fully built, is not able to withstand the high revs associated with b16a's

build it right the first time and you can have a motor that is as reliable as any straight swap

type r cams and valvetrain would def be a good upgrade and a chipped p28 would be a good choice

sorry but the idea of ls/vtec still makes me cringe.

To me, I just dont think sacrificing the revs is worth an extra 34 cc of displacement. The gain in torque is descent I wont lie, but, for the peace of mind, I would feel more comfortable with a straight b18c1 swap, knowing that I can rev the motor freely. If it can be prooved how well the motor is built,(labor quality, quality of parts), then I think it would be worth looking into. Good Luck

If you build an LS/VTEC motor correctly, revving wont be a problem. I know plenty of people with LS/VTEC motors who rev their motors high.
