Im looking at buying a GSR w/ an ls/vtec installed.
I have a turbo civic, so motor is not my forte and im somewhat ignorant to knowledge about all motor setups, so please excuse me if I am asking stupid questions, as I dont know the answers to them....
The Ls/Vtec has del sol b16 pistons and an Si (B16) head.
THe guy says that the head has ls valvesprings in the b16 head, and for that reason you can only rev to 7200 rpms, and he is running a p72 GSR computer. What my question is...what would I have to do to the motor to get it to be the beast that i hear so much about, and bring out the potential of the motor? Simply swap the valvesprings for ITR's? and then get an ITR computer or a chipped ECU? Or is revving the motor on an LS/Vtec unsafe?
Also how reliable are LS/Vtec's?
He said that the motor was built by one of the best builders on the east coast, and the car runs well, I drove it. However 7200 shift points, im not too crazy about..
Thanks for your help...

hmm LS valve springs? that doesnt sound right at all, who in thier right mind would do such a thing. if thats the case switch them out to ITR or aftermarket and get a chipped p28 or even a p30 then rev that thing up to 8200 or so
hmmm i have some stock b16 valve springs and retainers i'll sell you for like $25 shipped, so you can at least rev higher...
but goto c-speedracing.com and you can figure out what comp ratio your running,
i believe that calculator is under the How-To section
EDIT: Spelling

when your running pr3 pistons youll be at about an 11:1 cr, the ls valvesprings are worth jack...get some itr valve springs and valves too!!! the intake valves are 12% lighter which allow you to safely rev higher...but in the process of replacing the intake valves id do the exhuast also..if you have any car knowledge it wouldnt be all that expensive of an upgrade..prob 200 or so for the valves, 200 for itr springs w/ portflow inners, and 200 for a valve job roughly...That would garantee you have a decent valvetrain to rev to 8400. Many ? the ls/vtec reliability, i personally wouldnt rev it past 8200ish, many claim it can handle more, but the stock ls block is used to the stresses of a high revving motor. To be on the safe side to rev to 9000+ id recomend a block girdle...but to have it doen right will cost quite a bit of money...good luck, any more ?'s ill be glad to help ya out
