Default LS timing belt on ls/vtec can it mess up intake cam timing??

The cams sit closer together on the LS head then the b16a head. If using the ls belt can that screw up the intake cam timing? The problem I am having is my dis timing is off it is to much advanced and I had to grind out the bolt holes to get my timing in factory spec. But now my car just does not feel right at part throttle. Also setting at factory spec the car acts like the timing is to far retarted.

You NEED to use a vtec timing belt.

are you sure it is an ls belt cause i couldnt get a b20 timing belt (same as ls) to fit my b20vtec...the belt was too short.

I call the dealer today and checked the part number. It is the ls belt with LS water pump.

Yes, you are suppose to match the belt to whatever water pump you decide to use.. Thus, if you are using the LS waterpump, then you must use the LS timing belt.

Sounds like you are off a tooth or something when you put the timing belt on. You shouldn't have to grind anything to get set the timing back to stock.

check this out...it's easy to skip a tooth.

Well I put the type r belt and water pump in AND it works the same(waste of money). I have checked and checked the cam timing and it looks great. I can get the dis timing in line with the holes cut back. It is sitting at 17 deg advanced at idle and 35 deg over 3000 rpm (sounds ok to me). Well the car still idles great and it runs great when you are speeding up going down the road. But when you are just cruising down the road the car will not let you keep steady throttle it is cutting in and out.

maybe start a new thread that describes your problem as partial throttle stuttering?

it does not sound like a cam timing issue...

LS timing belt -> LS water pump
GSR timing belt -> GSR water pump

Does your LS bottom end have a crank speed fluctuation sensor ? The Ecu may be looking for one.

I've had a situation that sounds similar to yours. At partial throttle the car would buck or studder really violently... as soon as you floor it there was no problem at all... I took out some fuel from the partial throttle maps in my VAFC and it was perfect... So it was obvious that I was running way too rich under partial throttle.

Are you running rich like crazy? Maybe turn down your FPR a little and see...

Hope that helps...

I do not have a crank sensor. And I do not see a place for it on a pr3 computer(OBD0). I got the two O2 sensors in and going to drive it to work tomorrow to see what that did. I have been looking at getting a fuel controler. But would like to get the tuning close with out that before I add some more things to adjust. I have tried adjust my fuel pressure some(up and down). My air to fuel gauge looks close to the zc motor that was in there before. It had no part throttle problem like this.

Drove the car today with both O2 sensors and still same problem but took longer to happen. I have my air to fuel gauge on the second O2 sensor and after driving a couple miles at steady throttle the reading started to drop down to being way to lean and then it started acting the same way again. But when I stopped the car at a light the reading went back up a the car drove good again. I am thinking about installing a resister in the air intake sensor to make the computer think that the air coming in is colder so it will add more fuel. What do you think??
