LS swap in process, got a few ???
Well, i've made up my mind not to turbo my d and decided to do an LS swap in my 5th gen civic ex.
I got a 98 LS motor and 5spd tranny from a quality j/y for $850 along with the rest of the parts. My questions are:
1)since my car is OBDI, should i get the ECU from the 98 LS or get a OBDI LS ecu?
2)Which harnesses to use depending on what option i go? Use the OBDII complete harness w/OBDII ecu, or convert the b18b to OBDI? What all needs to be changed to do so? I wanna go ahead and swap out the D-series harness and just put in the Bseries (LS) harness.
3)As far as the throttle cable, do i need the bracket as well, or just the cable?
4)Lastly i believe, is the stock civic radiator good enough for cooling?
I will post pics of the swap, but it'll be about a month before i get started due to school. I'll be out soon.

Use the harness that is in your car it will work fine.

Just the cable I believe. I made a "custom" bracket for my swap because I didnt feel like running a new cable.
4)Lastly i believe, is the stock civic radiator good enough for cooling?
Assuming your cooling system is in decent shape it will work fine.

If i do some research on this site u can find all of ur answers.
1 and 2)) if u want to bar ur car later on, u should go with the OBD2 wire harness with the OBD2 ECU. But if u dont care about smog and u can get it done illegal just go with ur D-series harness with OBD1 Ls ECU.
3) U just need the LS throttle cable. it will work with the Ls bracket that comes with the engine. Changing the cable only takes 5min to do.
4)The stock civic radiator is good enough for a daily driver. But if u are going mod ur car and do alot of road racing and drag. U will need a bigger radiator. I have a B-series right now with the stock radiator and its been working fine for me.
Heres a tip. Before putting the engine in u should change:
1) timing belt, water pump, timing belt tensioner
2)the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and throw-out bearing.
It's a whole alot easier to do when the engine is out of the car and u have to change them sooner or later.

i've done an engine swap and ATX to MTX swap before in my 2nd gen Escort LX. I've seen many different opinions around the board about wiring. I'm in columbia, sc and we dont have emissions. I think in charleston they a lil something but other than that. I do want my car to be environmentally friendly, but hey.....
Yeah i had already planned on doing a tune-up with the motor out. Thats what I did on my SPI swap for my Escort, hell of alot easier and my Scort has LESS engine bay room than the honda!!
Thanks for the replies.
