Looking for best swap most conducive to autocrossing...
Hey guys, this is my first post here. Been considering a Honda for autocrossing for quite some time now. Especially after seeing all the fast EF's in STS locally and nationally.
I'm not interested in an STS setup though but more of a setup for Street Mod.
I've had my sights set on getting an early 4th gen '88 or '89 basic hatch and swapping in a B18C1 or B18C5. Any thoughts on why I should look at a different motor besides cost?
I understand that the 4th gens require a bit more work to get a B series to work (motor mounts, etc) but it shouldn't be enough to warrant going with a 5th gen instead? I want the 100-200 pound weight savings of the 88 or 89 and plus I prefer the looks.
Money is a concern so I may not be able to afford an ITR or GSR swap so I'm thinking the B16 is a pretty good bump in power for the money.
Any particular engine more conducive to supercharging? B20? B18B? In the future I may end up going with a JRSC. Don't wanna turbo. According to JacksonRacings website a supercharged B16A2 put down 190/138 to the wheels. I think that would be kind of fun on a 2000 pound car.
I basically just wanna make sure that I don't start going in one direction only to realize that I shoulda chosen a different path. This car will be strictly built for autocrossing. Not drag or street.
Of course there are tons of other variables to consider so any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Van
