Default jdm y1 tranny question

I have a jdm y1 cable trans. won't go into third or fourth. I have tried a new cable, adjusting, the whole bit and have come to the conclusion it just needs rebuilt. anyone know of a website or know the part #'s of the bearings and syncro's in the tranny? I was thinking of taking it to a local tranny shop with the parts, but have read a "small" amount of DIY on the tranny, anyone done it?

If it goes into every other gear but 3rd or 4th, then it definitely sounds like a problem with the tranny. I don't think the JDM models are USDM-rebuildable.

does it go in gear when the engine is not running? do you hear any funny metal rattle noises coming from the tranny? since you say that you can't shift into 3/4, i would have to say that you broke, or bendt the shift fork that selects third and fourth gear! if this is the case, buy one from a 90 ls tranny!

yeah it will go into it when it isn't running.......I have heard that going the route of the 90ls tranny is really gonna hurt me in the long run for putting power to the wheels but is a cheap alternative to rolling right now.

you're only going to buy the shift fork from the 90 ls tranny, if that's what you need. but physically(gears, shift forks, differential, and the case, the y1 and 90 ls tranny are identical withg the exception of the synchros)! so you won't sacrifice wnything, all you'll be doing is swaping parts!

yes sir, unless your willing to buy 88 to 91 single cam tranny synchros for 3&4 gears. i was told by a board member, who happens to be a honda tech that these will work on the jdm trannys. i just havent had the time or money to try this out!
