Default Idle Problems . Please Read

1992 EG Hatch
1997 JDM ITR
p06 ECU

ok, two days ago, i was driving to work and for some reason, the rpm's would "stick" at 1300 while i was in neutral rolling to a stop. once i came to a complete stop, they would come back down to my normal idle which is 800 rpms.

thought that was pretty weird.

driving home the same day, my car would idle while stopped around 400-500rpm's!!! wtf??? still have the above problem as well....weird. car stalled once, but fired right up but still felt like it wanted to die out.

i checked my oil, i was about 1/2 a quart low (custom race program burns more oil than normal and my valve cover gasket is leaking). added a half a quart, and is stopped idling really low, but i still have that 1500 rpm problem.

what can be wrong? it wasnt a gradual onset, but a sudden one.

A custom race program can't make a motor burn oil, the leaking valve cover and/or worn engine parts can. The oil level really wouldn't have anything to do with an idle problem.

The constant high idle could be a sticking, kinked or catching throttle cable, it could also be that the TPS sensor is going bad also. Check your ECU by jumping the test harness plug to see if the ECU has stored any error codes.

thanks man...i will check it. the oil i think is leaking from the valve cover and the cam seals. once i replace those, hopefully that will take care of it.
