Default i know i cant be alone on this one (swap bolts) 180$=2fawkin much

i when to ACURA today. to find out how much the bolts and nuts etc would cost! i need all the bolts for the motor mounts and starter bolts and the Alternator bolts . i also need the bracket for the Alternator(27bux) the price came to 183.43 with out tax. i know i can get the bracket off honda-tech or something. i told my freind about my trip to ACURA and he told me why cant i just to hardware store!
#1 question why cant i just go to LOWES or home depot? doesn't the metal have to be a certain grade, soit wont just break, due to engine's weight?
#2 question - will any bolts+nuts from a 92-95 d15,d16 motor+trans work with a 94-01 teg motor

I just swapped a gsr into a sol. The used the gsr mounts but the bolts for the gsr and the del sol were the same. I wouldn't just go to a hardware store for the mount bolts. Yes the bolts are graded and you better get the right strenght, plus the mount bolts are tapered at the end to allow them to thread into the welded nuts easier.

Lowes carries only metric course (sp?) thread. Honda uses course thread up to 8mm thick bolts (not the head size). After that, honda uses a finer thread than what lowes carries. Honda uses Grade 8 bolts, But lowes has the grade strenght depending on the size of the bolt. For standard (SAE) bolts, the uses lines on the head of the bolt to show the Grade it is. No lines = Grade 2, Three lines = Grade 5, six lines = Grade 8. Metric does it another way, they uses number on top of the bolt's head.
ISO 6.8 = SAE 2
ISO 8.8 = SAE 5 or 120,000 psi minimum
ISO 10.9 = SAE 8 or 150,000 psi minimum
ISO 12.9 = NAS 624-644 National Aerospace Standard or 180,000 psi minimum.

Well, grade 5 bolts hold the motor, yes, Would I just buy Grade 8's or reuse the stock bolts, hell yes.

Yes, most of them will work. I reuse them all the time.

Yes, you want to make sure you get Grade 8 bolts, this is like how strong they are and can resist stuff like shearing and twisting, as well as stripping (don't go any lower than Grade 5). One problem is that Honda uses real high pitch on the threading like 1.5-1.75. Its for more strength, but its hard to find them. You wont find most of the bolts at Loews or Home Depot, but if you look around for littler stores they sometimes carry the hard to find stuff.

Yes, they charge stupid amounts for hardware...I think I paid ~$2 for each of those acorn nuts that go on the valve cover

Yes alot of the bolts will cross over, obviosly once you start working on these cars you'll realize theres like 6 different bolts that they use for everything.

This is very true, you've basically got an assortment of 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 17mm bolts. I would say that about 90-95% of the bolts from your D series can be reused. Just because they are D series bolts, doesn't make them inferior to ones from a B series chassis. Reuse all that you can and save yourself some $.

why not just check with a shop that may have the bolts lying around from some front clips, etc. i had tons of extra bolts left from breaking down quite a few motors in the past.
