Re: how can you put ls vtec on a 86 integra with stock d16a1 (goofy7949)
haha. you need a new motor. an LS/vtec is a b18b (LS integra) block with a vtec head (b16a (civic SI or del sol VTEC) or B18c (integra GSR) usually).
doing an LS/vtec is impossible with a d16. its a contradiction. you need to buy a different block, head, tranny, shift linkage, ecu, wire harness, probably mounts and axles, and other stuff.
basically, you need parts from two or three different engines. and parts from your engine won't work for this.
sorry bro. these are very expensive too. you should look into a b18a1 swap or something. that would probably work well in your car. you could also put a b16a1 head on the b18a1 block and make a "sort of ls/vtec". it wouldn't be real, but those engines are older and would work better for your situation.

Why is a B18A bottom and B16A1 a "sort of LS/VTEC"? It would be the same thing as a B18B bottom with a B16A2 head or a GSR head. Yes the engine is older, but it's still a LS/VTEC. I do agree with the fact that it may not be worth doing the swap in a 1st gen Integra. It will probably be easier and cheaper to drop in a B16A or B18A using a bolt in mount kit, but if the guy has the funds, I'd say go for it.
