I don't know anything about whether or not that is possible, but I do know that swapping in a shorter gear will help your rpm's a lot... you have a 0.787 ratio, and the LS has a 0.714 ratio - as read from Tiiite B16A .
Anyway, you won't lose any HP / TQ in the lower rpms 'cause you've got the same effective gears there... but in the 5th gear of course you'll lose some. It'll be a bigger jump to the 5th gear than it is, say, from 2nd to 3rd. If you do a lot of highway driving I'd highly recommend it!

Swapping gears in a transmission is no easy task, the ones I see come apart hardly ever go back together correctly. This is an expensive job & will leave you wondering how long your tranny is going to behave like stock. If you are up to the task and feel that you have a competent mechanic, go for the gear swap. Otherwise, drive slow & rev high, at least you aren't going to burn gas like a 5.0 with 373's....

Actually, 4500 is not that bad for a honda engine. They are built to rev high. As long as you are not driving around for extended periods of time on the VTEC lobes, you are not hurting the motor at all. You can simply unplug the VTEC solenoid when driving on the highway. Or use a Fields controler to adjust the switchover point when you are on the highway.
If you have your heart set on changing gears, just change 5th and the final drive. You can use the LS, or almost any tranny from a B series motor. Shouldn't hurt performance too much.

Are you kidding??? I run the LS tranny and at 3500rpm in 5th I'm doing 85MPH!
Yes, you can swap in a LS 5th, but you're not going to drop the RPM's that much. It also has to do with the final drive too.

Now that I think about it, that does seem a bit high. Have you calibrated your tach? Is it the stock tach? They tend to read a bit high...

are you sure your at 4500 at 75mph cause i thought that b16a has a shorter closer tranny then a b18c and with my b16a im at 4000 doing 80mph, and even at 4500 your vtec is not engaged so it's not that bad, but the cheapest way to save gas? drive slower....
