Default h2b tranny questions, thoughts, input, advice.. whatever

i think we should kinda open this a little more.. over the weekend i took a (near worthless) 6 hr drive to orlando to go pick up a few trannies, really indecisive about which one i wanted to use. now, considering my car will be my DD, would you really wanna go with something with such short gearing? granted you'll have really short gearing, I assumed the reason why the ctr, itr tranny gears are so short is because, what they lack in torque they make up in revs. so shorter gears would be to their advantage in order to keep them in their high rpm power band

my buddy has got a bad *** B-series n/a build, i road in his car, and saw the dyno charts as well, and in terms of hp/tq, he's putting out an unusual load (pretty high torque numbers), he's currently currently running a b16 lsd tranny, granted this isn't an H2B or h series motor, he spins very will into 3rd on the street and ran a 14.0 spinning all the way down the track.. he's at an advantage because he's got torque downlow and rpm way up top. he's wanting to go with a gsr tranny which makes sense.

now your probably wondering what this has to do with the h series and h2b. well lets look at it in general terms, his motor a high rpm motor with a lot of torque downlow.. the h series is pretty much just a high torque motor.. lacking in the rpm department. so why would you want to go with ctr/itr gearing? as far as i know the h22 generally falls out of the powerband at around 7400, now trannies aren't my expertise, but since we h series guys dont have the 9000rpm redlines, is it REALLY ideal to have a short geared (ctr/itr) tranny?

personally i've been doing a LOT of thinking and a gsr, with a possibly itr LSD and 4.7fd would probably most ideal. PLEASE correct me if im wrong or if im overlooking anything.

here is your misconsumption, guys that are doing h2b used to rev to 7400k in thier D SERIES! , I, even on a stock internal 22, rev it to 8150, every time! but Mr. h22 tranny don't like that ****!
also the guys that are doing h2b usually start w/ at least some stage 2 cams, matching them up w/ a the necessary valve train components there fore allowing their 22 to make damn good power up to 9+k , then almost requiring one REALLY beefed/tweaked h22 tranny or just a lil ol b series tranny w/ lsd!!! ready for 9k shifts alll day!

You cant compare a 220/160 b series to a 220/160 h series. Powerband is way different on both motors.

that right there is my point.. granted the h22s powerband is more midrange. and the b series usually happens to be more topend.. its understandable in their case why they want a shorter geared tranny.. in our case.. wouldnt a shorter geared tranny (such as the itr/ctr) cause us to shift right above our midrange powerband?
