Default Roading Racing with a Y1 tranny? Yay or nay?

Hey,

Soooo I need a new tranny. The S1 I have now is very very short. Almost too short for myself. I want a tranny that will perform well on the track (gear ratios) but have a little more top end on the freeway (longer gears) for when I feel like having fun there as well. I was considering the Y1. I realize it has much longer gearing and was wondering if anyone has had experience with the y1 and a shorter tranny on the track.

Thanks,

Matt

Here is your answer.

For a little motor, with no torque and all the power up top, you want a VERY short tranny. There is a reason that the racers are using even 4.9 final drives. It keeps the RPM's up in the power band better.

If you want to go to the Y1's 4.26, it's not a bad tranny, but for the track the S1 is much better! It will pull you out of the corners faster due to the 4.4 FD!

This is speaking from experience because I had a Y1 first, then went to the S1 when the Y1 blew up!

I think I am going to go with the y1. prkiller makes a very valid point, but last night at 7500 going 115 on 15in wheels didnt cut it for me. I do run at willow springs and tracks like that often but it is a DD and i do like messing around on the freeway at 3am. hopefully this wont be a lesson hard learned. but i think the y1 will suit my needs better. thanks for everyone's input. and thanks to slow_em1 as i am buying this th.

Thanks again
