On the underside of the car I pop riveted a piece of sheet metal. I think at http://www.jdmshit.com there are some pictures of the way they did it.

I used 2 layers of dynomat extreme I believe. It was the kind with the aluminum backing. I decided to do that cuz 1) it keeps more noise out and 2) it is very flexible and easy to shape around the underside of the shifter and the undercarriage.

So stock shift linkage cant be used when doing a H22 swap into a EG or EK? why the need for modification to shift area?

Nope, the H22 relies on a cable tranny, where as the d-series motors have shift rods since its a hydrolic tranny. Hence the cutting to run the shifter cables (linkage) for the H22 swap into a civic.

the H22 tranny is hydraulic just like a B/D series.
The method for shifting is cable, but the tranny itself is hydraulic. B/D series use rods instead.
I just want to say something else about this....I know lots of people that hate on the H22 cuz it uses shifter cables, and B series guys say they suck...well, did anybody notice what Honda uses on the new K20A?
Cables Cables rock cuz you can have the shifter wherever you want. With a Rod setup, you have to have it directly in line with the rods...much of a headache.

I would just go to the hardware store and get a metal template that you can cut out and clue to the underside.
fastwanabe used a Dr pepper can.

This reminds me of Crank Yankers.
Is there a taste to the caulk? Is the black caulk bigger? Sorry
I say go with the soda can. Cool points there.

What exactly are you guys filling in?
The BOTTOM of the shifter itself, or an area that you cut out too big and now have to fill in for the shifter base?
I cut my hole out perfect to the shifter bottom, so now I need something to cover up the 3" that hangs down from the shifter.
I'm going to fashion a 3" deep box, and then drop it down in from the top.

That plate thingie, the one that holds the cable, do I already have that in my car or is it something that I have to find?

no, you gotta get one from a Prelude or Accord and put it in.
It will probably come with the engine if you buy a complete changeover.

Yeah it should come with your swap, the one on your car will not work since the prelude one you need is not even on your car, its completely different.

I wasnt going to put anything there, but when I was driving around open header I had to roll the windows down because I kept getting exhaust fumes coming up through it lol. So that's why I put a littl caulk around the edges. And no I didn't taste it.
