gen1 obd0 b16a into gen2 obd1 del sol
OK, i want to buy a b-series engine to take apart and totally rebuild. During the build-up I will be working with L&M Engines in Hatboro,PA to build custom camshafts for the engine during its several stages of rebuild. (i.e couple stages for stock b16a, couple for b16a w/ head work, b16a w/ headwork & built bottom w/ ^CR, ...w/ ITBs also, w/ ITBs and 150+shot...) The crankshats should be available within 3-4months.
I currently have a 2nd gen obd1 B16A in my obd1 del sol.
I want to know exactly what the downsides would be to putting in the 1st gen obd0 b16a as opposed to getting a 2nd gen obd1 and it going in just like the current one is there now.
From my understanding, to use the 1st gen b16a in my car now, i'd need a dizzy for it, injectors, obd-0 computer (or conversion), alternator...anything else?
If we use AEM EMS to run the new built engine (obd0) will i have any troubles when i put it in my obd-1 car?
are there any "tuning flaws" that make the 1st gen inferior to the 2nd gen? for example, i hear the 1st gen doesn't have a crankshaft position sensor?- does the EMS tune off of that?
thanks for any info.

why do you want to run obd zero on your obd one car?
just convert the motor to obd one
it is not hard at all

i don't want to but if i can pick up an obd0 for much cheaper, i just might. there will be no difference internally if i start w/ a 1st or 2nd gen b16a since it'll be totally rebuilt. but what about wiring/sensor issues?
can you elaborate?

Yes but
You have a obd one car
So if you wanted to run a obd zero ecu | dizzy | oxygen sensor
you would have to convert your harness to make them work right
It is easy and better to convert the motor to obd one by replacing the dizzy | injectors | rewiring the ECT sensor with obd one or two parts

so if i get AEM EMS, and put an obd1 o2 sensor on the obd0 engine, and obd1 dizzy on it, and convert the harness.... all will be normal?

Yes but
To run the obd one or two oxygen sensor
it is easier to get a obd one or two header
do not forget to convert the ECT sensor or your cooling fans will not work

i have an obd1 header....and what exactly has to be done to the ECT sensor. can't i just use the gen2 water neck w/ the sensor location there. or is there some wiring i have to adjust?

you hit the nail right on the head
thats what you have to do or use the obd zero ECT sensor that is on the block
