Default ek h22 tachometer

I'm having a little trouble with my tachometer. First of all, I'm not exactly sure how it's even working. I know it's supposed to be connected through the ICM, but there is no wire for it (obd2). Anyhow, now that you know it works, here's my problem:

When I'm driving around town it works just find, albeit a tiny bit jumpy (it may jump back and forth about 50-100rpm intermittently), however, when I gas it at near redline for the stock ex cluster (7000 rpm) the damn thing freaks out and shoots around all over the place leaving me to guess what rpm I'm at. All grounds are connected fine, however tomorrow morning i'm going to go buy some wiring to add a few more (five) just to make sure that it isn't the problem.

Anyone? Please?!

Sounds like your ICM or ignition module in the distributor has loose wires. Make sure that they are crimped down properly around the ICM then take it for another spin. You can buy me a drink later..

I got four 4 gauge wires from the local speaker shop. I replaced my stock grounds with those and added one onto the intake manifold and thermostat housing. Turbogixxer said that he had connected one to the thermostat housing, but i didn't see one there, , so I added one there. (And he said the car wouldn't even start up without one on there, bah!)

Before I did all this today though, I wanted to make sure that the tach was still freaking out and when I tested it of course it wasn't, but it has been an intermittent problem so I went ahead and did changed the ground wires anyway. Only time will tell to see if it happens again.

Update for everything else:
-I'm finally getting my CAI on monday (I have been running without any intake).
-After receiving the wrong shifter cables from HMO, I have still yet to receive the new ones. Steve said he sent them last Friday 2-3 Priority. bleh.

So we'll see how everything feels once i get that stuff. I plan on adding dynomat to the firewall to help control some of the extra noise, but I'm going to wait until I ge the new shifter cables before I start that crap. As for now, the wait is on.

Some of us like a nice quiet no-vibration ride.
Now while I realize that it is probably impossible to do that. I would like to have a nice ride that I will be comfortable in when I drive for eight hours up to see me family, which I do quite often. A$$.

Anyways, this whole thread opened up a huge can of worms. I don't know how it happened, but my alternator went bad the same day I changed the grounds. Ok, not the same day, but at 2am the next day. I'm driving to take one of my friend home and suddenly all the guages go to zero, my radio goes dead, and my headlights go very dim.
Well considering what we had just done 12 hours earlier, we decided to check all the grounds. One of them had came loose. We pulled it off, fixed it, tried the motor again, it worked fine, I started to back up to get out of the Publix parking lot and it did it again. We ended up staying there for the next 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong, but decided to give up until the next morning (ended up being afternoon), so I drove him home and crashed on his couch.

After hours of trouble shooting and finding out that the negative cable going to the alternator had been nearly melted (yea, i know) and was corroded to the point of breaking, I decided to pull out the alternator and have pep boys test it. They say it's dead, I ask if they have any, knowing full well no one carries anything in stock for a 1993 Prelude motor, and he goes to check. We'll to my surprise they have one in stock, I nearly peed myself. So we went back, changed out the alternator and gave it another shot. SAME THING!! Dammit man! Well we searched all the fuses, for the fourth time, and find that the battery fuse in the under the hood fuse box has blown. GRR! So we make another run to pep boys for it, but all of their 80amp fuses are too long to fit. (it's hard to explain how, but if you get them and compare it to yours, you'll see). So basically I had to cut then ends off and ghetto rig the damn thing to work. We popped it in and gave it another try...

1 minute goes by, 2 minutes go by, 5 minutes go by, 10 minutes go by. FINALLY, SUCCESS!

Sorry about this long post.... I had to vent.
