EG6 - with with B16B installed problems help
have a friend who we helped install a B16B engine and gearbox into his 92 EG6 SiR (B16A standard)
we used the standard loom and computer and distributor (using OBd1 spoon ecu)
The engine has a slightly milled head and is running spoon cams and cam gears, 4-1 98 spec teg extractors, otherwise a standard type R engine. Also running a spoon thermostat and thermo switch.
the car seems to run very well but in the last few days it has developed a problem
It wil be running fine and then you rev it out and just after you hit vtec at 6000rpm and reach 7000rm it misses and loses power and the check light comes on, so you pull over and the car sounds rough as guts.... got him to turn it off then disconect battery to reset computer... did this then restarted....Still missing and wont go properly, so I told him to gently drive it home as best he could, half way home it started to run fine again??????
Anyway he got home and I told him to pull his plugs out, he did then emailed me some pics
The plugs are VERY fouled Black as black!!!!!!
I am trying to help him from where I am as I am hours away from him I am just guessing...... he hasnt and doesnt know how to get the check code to flash up (I do but Im not there to help)
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem? I thought maybe that it has too much fuel up top? and was fouling the plugs..... BECAUSE the engine temp is so low because of the spoon thermostat....... even though the thermo switch is supposed to discuise that... The temp gauge isnt even registering after driving for 10mins!!!!! Could this be causing the car to run ultra rich?
Ususally plugs foul at low revs????? not high revs????
Any sugestions or ideas would be a great help.

Re: (sihatch19)
yes car sounds 2 rich and if it doesnot reach NOT (normal operating temp) it will run rich, however the high rpm miss sounds like a distributor problem, please check the engine light blinks and post the number so i can further help

Re: (sihatch19)
correct me if im worng but the b16b is an obd2 engine because it was produced between 97-01 and the harness in the EG6 is obd1, this could be a problem.

Re: EG6 - with with B16B installed problems help (jdmitr1982)
Car had a B16A in going a day before we did the conversion, and we used the O2 sensor and distributor from this engine!!!!! So the only thing that is different is the spoon thermostat and thermo switch....
Found that the TPS sensor is damaged has cracks and stuff on it so this could be a cause as well?
