Which ECU to use for JDM EK3 engine?
as topic, will be doing the swap soon and i'm wondering which ECU should i use, I'll be swapping a EK3 (96-00 civic in Jap) engine into my EK hatch (year 00). I'd like to know which ECU will be the best to use w/ this engine, I know the 99-00 D16Y8 ECU will be fine but due to the 3 stage vtec system in the JDM EK3 engine, I'd like to know the different between the EK3 ECU and the Y8 ECU :D
thz for the help in advance

What motor comes ouy of the EK3? B16xx, D15xx, D16xx, etc.
I don't know of any 3 stage VTEC engines from north america unless thats what the VX's had.
Edit- Did you order the D15B with a CVT transmission?

I did a little reading on this motor and it seem like a nice motor to have. It combines the fuel economy of VTEC-E and the power of VTEC all in one pretty powerfull D-series motor. I would like to have seen it come to North America so I could have one in my DD.
Unfortunatly I don't think your going to be able to find a Canadian or American ECU that will work for this motor. The D16Y8 ECU, P2P, might allow the motor to run, but it won't be able to operate the VTEC-E function. If you were to go this route, you've pretty much wasted your money buying such a nice motor because you'ld essentially have a D16Y8.
The ECU for the VX and HX Civics might also work, but again you'll have pretty much wasted your money because you'll have a D15Y5.
The only way I see you being able to take full advantage of the neat features of this motor is to source the matching ECU for your motor. This shouldn't be hard because these were sold throughout Japan and Europe. Odds are the ECU is tuned to run on higher octane gas like they have in Japan so something will have to be done to allow it to run on the lower octane gases we get here.
