Distributor & idle issue

Distributor & idle issue
Recently my car idles rough and engine sputters randomly at different RPMs. I noticed that if I wiggle the distributor wires the car idles better. I took the boot of the wires but they look fine. Could it be connector problem?

Re: Distributor & idle issue
if your obd1 rotating the distributor advances (rpm's go up) and retards(rpm's go down) the timing, obd2 usually the ecu will autocorrect timing within its own parameters and the distributor should be bolted down so you cant just turn it by hand.
as for rough idle issues just that isnt enough info to go on. if your timing is too retarded itll sputter and run horrible. too advanced and you might end up hating life later down the road.
what is your idle rpm? what all have you done to correct it? do you have a check engine light on? does it idle rough when its hot cold or both? is it misfiring? when was the last time you changed sparkplugs and wires, cap and rotor,? are the spark plugs all fouled up or have improper gap setting what brands are they? cheap brands like autolite dont usually come properly gapped and need to be gapped. have you tested your spark wires to make sure theyre within spec? what fuel do you use and have you done a fuel contaminant and quality check? do you lack power on the highway but good around town? the more info you give it helps narrow down the 21 questions game.

WHICH dizzy wires are you talking about?
The plug wires (because you said boots?)
Or the harness?
ALSO, You are required to post the year/make/model, and engine, mods, etc in the OP. (if I didnt say, someone else will )

Re: Distributor & idle issue
Thanks guys for your replies. I am attaching an image of which wires i mean.
Car: EJ6
Model: 2000
Engine: H22 Manual
ECU: P28 chipped (h22 basemap)
Fuel Used: 95 Octane
----------------
Parts Replaced this year:
-Walbro fuel pump 255.
-Fuel Filter.
-Fuel Regulator.
-(NGK Spark Plugs),wires,cap and rotor.
-New Battery.
-New Radiator & Fans.
-----------------
i tried to start the car in the morning and it just cranks, car i s getting fuel. I popped up the hood trying to figure out what happened. I just wiggled the dizzy wires and the went back to car and it just starts! but it idles rough, misfires. So i took it for a drive and it was sputtering at different RPMs. I went back home and wiggled the wires again and it idles better! I shut the car and took the boots off but they look fine. I checked for codes NO CELs.

Re: Distributor & idle issue
Unplug the plugs and look for corrosion or damage to the connector pins. You may need to replace the distributor and/or harness plugs.
Test by idling the car while you move the wires carefully one at a time to try and localize the problem.
