Default Idling issues....Can timing contribute?

d16 with bs intake and full exhaust. Used to idle at about 300-500 rpms. Changed cap & rotor (beck & Arnley), Plugs (NGK Iridium), Wires (beck & arnley). Had installed the engine about a week before and it was idling fine. Noticed the distributor bolts were loose, tightened them and may have advanced or reterded the timing......would this play a factor in the new idle speed which is at 1500rpm?

It could, get a timing light and make sure your IG timing is on. Then go from there.

you can only advance/retard your ignition timing on the distributor by 3 degrees each way from tdc so if your at 16tdc it will only go to 19 or 13... advancing the timing 3 degrees will only raise your idle by a couple hundred then the computer will fix it on its own and bring it back down... 1500 rpm is not from the distributor.

check for a loose vacume line or bad fast idle valve

bad idle is usually vaccum leaks, IACV or FITV... mine ocassionally does it, at a stop it will go from 1000 to 1400 and back down and back up... its really hard to diagnose though.
