I bought a D16Z6 off ebay, I noticed today that the valve colver doesnt say "Vtec" on it... Worried I checked the block stamping, and it says D16Z6, and looks original.... Does the z6 motor's valve cover not say "vtec" or did I get scammed.

 

some motors don't say vtec on the valve cover. the best way to see if it is a vtec head is to check for the vtec solenoid...

 

my brothers 92 si does not say "VTEC" on it
if it has one of these then you are ok...

 

corect me if im rong but Im pretty sure that they didnt start putting vtec on the valve cover untill 94 because two guys at my school have a 93 and 94 civic ex and the 93 dosnt have vtev on the v/c and the 94 does so there you go

Thanks guys, I think I have seen the Vtec solenoind, I will look again for sure. The block stamping says D16z6, I just wanted to make sure someone didnt swap the head or something...

 

in the civic SI hatch, it dosent say VTEC on the valve cover. it started in 94(?) on the civic EX.

 

92-93 = no VTEC
94-95 = VTEC

 

i have a 98 EX and it doesn't say VTEC on the head either..

aslong as the solenoid is there, and it says d16z6 on the block, your in good hands

 

My 92 d16z6 engine doesn't say VTEC either...but the solenoid is there so it's all good...
