I'm going to build a SM autox machine out of my 93 DX hatch. I'm looking for the lightest motor that I can find with respect to making decent power. These are my considerations:

--keep the stock 16v 1.5 and build it up all motor
--keep the stock 16v 1.5 and put a JRSC on it
--put the sohc vtec 1.6 in it with perhaps a s/c
--B18B (with or without s/c)
--B18C (all motor)
--B16A (all motor)

Now, keep in mind that autox isn't about sheer power. I'd gladly give up 20 HP for 100lbs less weight over the front wheels. In SM I can do any combo of tranny, head or whatever I want, so mixing components isn't a problem.

Any recommendations?

i'd say go for the b16a because you will gain a lot more power over your 1.5 and not a lot of weight.the next option would be the b18b w/sc (probably the most tq at the lowest rpm)it would weigh more but you will have the tq that you need.

How much heavier is the B16a over the D series 1.5?

i'm not sure on the exact amount but my guess would be about 50-75lbs (give or take a little)
