CIVIC VEI ENGINE SWAP SOME HELP MUCH APPRECIATED (PROBLEMS)
HI THERE ALL, THIS IS MY FIRST TOPIC SO HOPEFULLY I WILL GET EVRYTHING RIGHT.
I BOUGHT A CIVIC 92 1.5 VTI JAP IMPORT, I OWN A 92 1.5 VEI JAP IMPORT. AM I RIGHT IN ASSUMING THAT THE 'E' IN THE VEI STANDS FOR ECONOMY. IF SO WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THIS MAKE TO THE CAR.
BASICALLY IF I PUT THE VTI ECU IN MY VEI WILL IT WORK, AND WILL IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE OR IS THE ECONAMY PART OF THE VEHICLE RESTRICTED BY THE ENGINE BLOCK. I HAVE CHECKED AND THE VTI 1.5 IS THE SAME AS THE 1.5 VEI SO WAS THINKING I WOULD JUST SWAP THE ENGINE... IF THERE ISN'T ANY DIFFERENCE.
ALL THE WIRING LOOKS THE SAME SO SHOULD BE AS SIMPLE AS SWAPING THE ENGINE BLOCK AND GEARBOX. IS EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE VTI THE SAME AS THE VEI, I.E. THE DISTRIBUTER, SENSORS ETC? THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I CAN TELL IS THE ROCKER COVER.
I HAVE A BIT OF A PROBLEM WHERE I SWAPPED THE GEARBOX (IT WASN'T THE RIGHT ONE) AND NOW THE REDLINE POINT AS DROPPED FROM 8200 TO 7000 RPM (THIS MAKES ONE HELL OF A DIFFERENCE TO THE SPEED IT REACHES IN SECOND GEAR) . NOT SURE IF IT WAS THE GEARBOX BUT IT WAS THE ONLY THING I SWAPPED. ANY SUGESTIONS.
MY HEATERS STAY ON CONSTANTLY ON COLD AND I CANT GET THEM TO CHANGE TO WARM OR CHANGE THE SPEED AT WHICH THEY ARE BLOWING.

I haven't heard of VEI and VTI engines specifically, but the general principle with honda engines is that your ECU should match the head. In two engines with the same displacement, likely the head is different, and so is the ECU.
The heater problem is two parts: There's a mechanical arm that controls the heat, it goes from the panel to under the glove compartment on the passenger side. If you can't change the speed of the fan, it's becacuse the switches inside the control are broken. Just getting that box out can be a real pain, and I still haven't got it out of mine to repair a similar problem.

getting the heater controls out i thought were quite easy, use a small possy screw drivere to get to the 3 srews right at the back. just pops out then. wasn't sure if it was the heater controls or something else though. but i'llk try some new ones in it.
so basically you mean the ecu wont fit my car. they are both 1.5 vtec engines but one is a vti and the other is a vei, both look exactly the same engine but just with different ecu's, so thought maybe i could just swap them. is there a good chance i could break my engine if i fit the vti ecu to my vei.,

my ecu is buggered, or at least something is, i used £17.50 worth of petrol on an 80 mile trip, it dont matter now both are d15b engines so assuming that a swap is fine, i am putting the vei engine in the vti as the vei as only done 67000, the vti as done 160000.

hi there the vei and vti loom are both the same the only difference between the engines really is the inlet manifold. what is the ecu code on the two ecu's i currently have a vei myself if you need to know anything else just ask hope it was helpful

The JDM VTi I believe comes with a D15B Vtec 128.8 HP (130PS), UK versions I believe came with a B16A. The VEi I've never actually heard of, but I suspect it comes with a D15B Vtec-e engine, which will be more familar to north americans as the D15Z1 found in the US/Canadian VX hatchback, putting out 92hp. The japanese variants of both engines will be stamped mearly D15B, as are a few other 1.5L SOHC JDM engines. In this particular case I believe both blocks are the same, the crankshaft, rods, pistons, head, intake manifold etc are all different though, as are the ECUs. The VTi has the better engine if you're looking for power, the VEi gets better mileage.

The VTi ECU should be a P08, the VEi should be a P84 if its JDM, otherwise possibly P07.
