Default Can running rich cause car to smoke?

I was scared to death today when smoke started to come out of my exhuast! I called my mechanic and he said to bring it down so he could see what the smoke looked like. We he saw it, he reved it up a little, smeeled the exhaust, and said that it was just running rich because of the fuel maps of the mugen program. He told me not to worry about it at all.

Does that all sound right?

If your exhaust that came out the back was a brownish/blackish smoke then it's a rich condition and you're fine. Check your rear bumper for black soot, I'm sure there will be a ton of it.

Nope, there is no black soot. I even wiped out the tip of my exhaust, and back bumber. I checked it the next day, and there was still no soot.

Soot=burning oil, right?

With smoke out the exhaust REMEBER:

Black = good = fuel (rich)

White(blue) = bad = oil

White (brownish/tan or pure white) = bad = coolant

you can smell it too. when u run rich the exhaust smells gassy and when u are burning coolant it smells sort of sweet. and of course blue smoke gives away burning oil
