Buying a blown H22
ok now before I get flamed this is just a question and hear me out.
What would be the harm of trying to find a blown H22A if I planned on doing a complete head rebuild with port and polish, springs and retainers and the whole lot. Also plan on doing all new internals and having the motor balanced and blue printed?
I mean I am planning on rebuilding the whole thing practically so I can't see how it would be a big sin to find a blown motor for a hell of a lot cheaper.
I am not talking about a block with a hole in the side just one with a spun bearing or something similar not a grenaded motor but something repairable.
I know I ramble
Last part of this is would it be a big pain in the *** to find such a motor?
Edit: cause I can't type

if your already planning on doing all that stuff a blown motor is 100% the way to go.. try and call up HMO or IPAS or whoever is hot selling swaps now a days and ask them if they have any blown...when i got my first swap the rod was busted when i got it so it does happen..check it out, yah never know you may get a great deal and exactly what your looking for..or maybe not.. :dunno:

Apperantly as I take it, if you have any damage to the walls that require more than honing you have to resleeve the block, due to the coating the H22's have.
Also you will have to do this if you are planning to add aftermarket pistons. Basically it seems with the H22 if you have to take the pistons out due to damage of any kind you gotta resleeve it.
On the same note can you at least hone these things...I mean why would honda make an engine that you could never really even properly (honing a little) put new rings in? Do you just hope the walls are still good and put those puppies in?

Re: Buying a blown H22 (Westrock2000)
I am planning on resleeving the motor anyway and putting in some lower compression pistons because it will be boosted so thats not much of a concern.
There has to be someone out there with an opposing point of view I wanna know if there are potential pitfalls

Potential issue I thought of while driving to work today.
Probably going to be difficult to find a JDM blown motor since all they bring over are motors that run...hmmm

Re: Buying a blown H22 (H22EK)
Thats true but when a company that imports these motors gets a bunk one do they bother keeping it around? ship it back? or just shitcan it?
Basically trying to get an idea of availability.
And yes at this point I am to lazy and penniless to actually call places to find out hehehe

Re: Buying a blown H22 (UtahRockabilly)
I have done this in the past with a 2.2 and it was alot of work and expensive. The damn nikisil sleeves are very touchy and most blown 2.2's need sleeving. The crank is also expensive and hard to find plus all the rebuild parts and labor adds up quick. I recommend you buy a running motor and boost it oem spec.

Re: Buying a blown H22 (Allstar)
getting the resleeving done and anyother engine work isn't a problem for me.
benefits of friends of the family owning a machine shop and running an NHRA dragster.
all the assembly of the motor I am going to do myself I have done it before its not that big of a deal as long as you know the clearances and have the right tools.
I am planning on building this motor over time and building it bullet proof so expense I know is going to be high but I am planning for that.
Any suggestions on who might be the best source for such a motor?

If your gonna rebuild why bother searching for a JDM one? Just because? Will it really matter afterwards if your gonna replace most of the internals anyways?

Try osaka out of canada.. they get all there engines from japan.. some of the stuff that i have seen come out of there is good.. but on the other hand i have seen a few complicated disputes about motors that come from them.. it almost seems like they just throw parts on a crate and send it out without checking the order.. but give them a call they might have something.. <A HREF="http://www.osakamotors.com
