I'd find a reputable place online. When you get the motor, get someone that knows what to look for to check it out before the installation. I would always get compression numbers.

people think getting a newer motor will mean that it will have less miles. if you get an imported jdm motor you can get most obd-1 motors for a pretty good price. i would say get a h22 with the same obd as your car.

its always better if you can physically be there to check out the motor before you buy it. if there is a motor importer near you, then go to them and check out what they have. having the motor in front of you will let you inspect the motor that you will actually be purchasing. and it always helps to have someone with you that knows what a good motor looks like.

you won't know just by looking at it if it's any good. you can get the number off of it and get the year from honda, but that still doesn't help you with knowing if it's any good.

usually the only obd2 h22's (h22a4) that you can find have about the same miles as a h22a1 (obd1) from japan. so its not really worth going through the obd2 conversion because theres really never a difference in milage.... most of the japanese engines have anywhere from 25k to 50k on them. a reputable importer should know the exact milage...id be wary of buying any engine without first checking it out yourself or having a trusted friend/mechanic look at it.

my recomendation is Japan Direct in Raleigh, NC..my friend's dad runs it and has been in the engine business for a LONG time..he personally goes to Japan every few months and picks out each engine he buys.. it takes him two weeks of going through warehouses to find good engines to bring back..every engine my brother and I have bought has come from him and we are never disapointed..they also keep alot of h22's in stock and can help you out with any swap questions...their website is http://www.usedengine.com
