Default Is it the Block?

When they say you have to get the same year or newer engine for your car, are they talking about the block?

I guess the real question is, can I get a new block and put an older B16 head on it and be legal?

You can put any engine in any car as long as the engine (complete) is the same year or newer. (By Law)

But, talking to the REF here in SoCal, he doesn't care what year your engine is, as long as it's currently made, or newer than your vehicle.

Also, you must hook up all the vacumme lines and wiring as per your car, or the newer engine specs.

In otherwords, don't hack it.

yep, you could run a same year on newer block, but other crap doesnt have to be from the same motor. e.g. and 97+ gsr block with a 93 b16a head. they have a big fat book with all the different engine serial codes/numbers. sooooo, if you have a jdm motor, guess what? it aint in the book! sucks huh?
