B18c or B16a
B18C1 or C5 all the way.
I would even consider a non-VTEC B20. I put a B16A2 in my friends 96 CX hatch and yes it's a big step up from the non-VTEC 1.6 SOHC but it still doesn't pull hard. I can easily take him with my 91 CRX with 96 B18B1.

yeah i had a worked b16 in my last rex, far from a thrill ride, you'd watch the speedo climb and some crazy noises but it seroiusly felt like you were standing still.. ls's make it feel like your going somewhere, not to mention b18c's
I have a b16a1. Love the way it rev up like motorcycle motor. I b18 seems slugish and is not peppy as the b18. Plus b16 is lighter, had that motor pinned all day at 8400rpm on a track day. Pulled 142fwh on the dyno and 112 torque. B18 have a un noticable 10ft torque more, not that much of a difference. My b16a was un destoyable.

The question that needs to be asked is what are your goals?Plans, forced induction or n/a? drag race autocross or just a street warrior?Stuff like that needs to be asked before you can get an accurate answer....I could tell you to get a b18c because it has more tq but if you plan to go turbo, the b16a is a better route,it's all about the intent..and purpose

But back to the original question. If you can afford to go B18C, do so. I have a B16A in my CRX. And while it is not at all a bad motor, the B18C is better. That is why I am going from B16A to B18C.
