Anyone using LS distributor on LS/vtec
I am trying to use a ls distributor on my ls/vtec in my crx with the pr3 computer. I cut the one arm off so it would clear the vtec sol. But to get my timing marks to line up to set the timing I had to grind out a lot off the other ears to have the adjustment I needed to get the mark to line up. I went and checked my cam timing and it looks like it is correct. But something is just not right. Did anybody else have to grind the bolt holes to make there timing marks line up? Also the dis timing does not seam to make the car sound any different . If I would have not ground off any of the bolt holes may timing would be 10 to 20 deg more them factory. I would think that the car would run like **** with that much advance? But it runs the same or better then it does now with the marks lining up. And ideas would be helpful.

I am using the ls timing belt on this motor. I know that the b16a cams sit farther apart what is that belt is pulling my intake cam closer to the exhaust cam and advancing my intake cam and also diss timing?

You should get a vtec distributor... it is my assumption that the non-vtec distributor has slightly different internals than a vtec one... it should work, but might burn out pretty quickly.
You will need to use a VTEC timing belt... go buy one now...

Never seen anyone do it... but I would guess you're idling like total *** and drivability is poor or non-existant.
I hesitate to ask... what oil pump are you using ?

Re: Anyone using LS distributor on LS/vtec (X2BOARD)
I am using ITR oil pump. The car idles great and has good power. But something is wrong with the timing. I am going to buy some adjustable cam gears to set the intake cam timing back some. I got a lot of my info on my build up off of honda tuning mag. It said to use the ls belt. That is why I got one. I think that with the cams being a little more spaced out it is advancing my intake cam a little and throwing my timing off. Does that sound like it could be the problem?????

R U sure you didn't confuse using an LS headgasket with LS timing belt ? You need to use a VTEC water pump and belt... but as I said before, I have not seen someone that has actually used the LS timing belt.
If you are trying to do a ghetto LSVT, just go back to LS, you will be severely disappointed... and fixing something like this costs more than doing it right the first time.

Re: Anyone using LS distributor on LS/vtec (X2BOARD)
I motor that I have build is... B18a bottom with type r pistons balanced bottom end, ARP rod bolts,CTR oil pump.
b16a1 head with three angle valve job with type r valve spings. Going to get some type r cams soon.
If you have a copy of honda power mag it said to use the LS timing belt. SO that is what I used. If you do a search people on here say to use LS belt with LS water pump OR vtec timing belt with Vtech water pump.
I think that I have done this motor right but got the wrong info on which belt set up to use.
I think using the LS belt it just throws off the intake cam. Look at the two, the vtech head has the cams sitting apart more. But it still will work. I know this because my motor is running and I can drive it.

That honda mag may have a misprint... either that, or their LSVT no longer runs..
As far as the water pump... you should use a vtec one as the LS one is used for an engine that wasn't meant to operate up top.

I am going to go to the dealer and get a belt and a water pump for vtec. I'll let you know if that is my problem.
