anyone done a H22A vtec engine swap into a civic?....need answers
i was looking into a swap of either a B18C or H22A and now am leaning toward the H because of its torque and extra displacement. what are the opinions? i heard that its harder to swap that into a civic ex coupe than a B18, is this true?

NO, I don't believe its too much harder because a few companies offer direct bolt in mount kits for H22A.
No motor is faster than H22A for the money. H22A is about $500 more than GSR installed and will absolutely destroy it in a race in a straight line. You would have to spend about 2k on that GSR to keep up with that stock prelude. Maybe more.
A type-r motor can't keep up with a Civic of same type with Prelude motor in it either...too much torque. Its close though, raced this race many times. All I can tell you is 1st and second gear, that prelude civic is GONE. R motor will pull in 3rd and 4th slightly, but its too late. Pull is a crawl.

Uh, 5G weighs what?...2200lbs? (CX) 4G hatch weighs...what? 2100lbs? WHOA! That's a significant amount!
Have you looked at the engine bay of a 4G? With a huge H22a in it, there's barely any room for the radiator. Ever wonder why there's no mounting kit for an H22 in a 4G?
At least the 5G clears most of the H22...with the exception of the PS. But who needs PS when you got 150+lbs of torque!

As far as legality goes, he should be fine assuming the engine is the same year or newer and all smog equipment is hooked up and working.

this swap is hell. you have to do so much extra ****. is it worth it. yea i think its worth. its not cheap to run 10's but the h22a is the cheapest way i think.

Spade- Are you daily driving the car too? Keep in mind that you will be hard pressed to keep p/s, a/c, and will need to upgrade the radiator. The 2.2 does weigh a bit more than the 1.8 and if you are daily driving the thing check to see if the local DMV will even grant you permission to register let alone smog the car.

if it's a JDM motor, it will not pass. I have a JDM b16, and even if i pass visual, my emissions will still be too high. I would need to have 2 cats!!
speakin' of which....my smog is due
