Adding + lengthening wires? How and where?
I've been reading up on the B18C1 swap into an EG that I want to do. However, it says there are a few wires you need extend and a few you need to add in order to get it working right. The book I bought says:
"It will require the occasional lenthening of sensor wires and the addition of a VTEC pressure switch, VTEC soldenoid, and knock sensor wiring for VTEC-equipped engines."
"Also, the evaporative purge soldenoid and intake air bypass valve for GSR engines must be wired."
My question is, if these wires and sensors are not already on my stock wiring harness how do I "add them" to my existing wiring harness? I know one end plugs into the ECU and the other end goes to the sensor, and thats the extent of my knowledge. Can anyone help?

you got it right on the head, one end of teh wure goes to the ecu and the other plugs into the sensor. in other words if you cannot plug everything into the right place you may need to make your own wiring for the harness....

Re: (Tippyman98)
In the welding/fabrication section there is a thread titled "rewiring entire engine bay" https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1043518
There is some good discussion there on what gague wire to use etc.
To lengthen wires on an existing harness the best way is to:
cut the wire (at least a few inches away from the end)
strip the ends on the wire where you just cut
strip the ends on the length of wire you are adding
twist one end of the wire you are adding (the extension) to the existing wire and solder it
slide two pieces of heat shrink tubing over the free end of the extension,
twist and solder the other end
heat shrink the two pieces of tubing over the areas you soldered
and now you have a safe and insulated extended wire.
See the thread for specifics and pictures of fun stuff

There's nothing hard about that swap at all...I did it on my own without engine swap knowledge prior to doing so...If this is your first swap...RESEARCH is the key...and TAKE YOUR TIME....
If I remember correctly, You will def. need to lengthen the O2 sensor...The wires you need to add VTEC solenoid and VTEC oil pressure and knock sensor...You will need the pin out diagram for the GSR ECU as well...
IAB which was EVAP on civic is built in your harness...All you have to do is find the plug that went to the EVAP on the CIVIC and it will be now the IAB plug for your GSR engine...
REPIN A20 into A17 and you're set on the IABs being wired...

So the engine bay wire isn't "special"? It's just regular wiring with pins connected to it? If I were to go to Lowe's and buy some wire to add to/lengthen my existing harness, what wire should I get? And where can I get the pins? Any links?

the pinsare pins from a honda harness, thus the usual statement of use the extra plugs and parts from the donor harness. you may even be able to pull wires ouf ot the other harness. but overall it sounds like you would be best hving someone do the swap for you.

Re: (v4lu3s)
The mechanical aspect of the swap is easy enough, I've done enough similar stuff, the only trouble I am having understanding is the minor wiring problems.
Let's play a little game. Assume that I am wiring the engine up, and I come to the part where I need to wire the VTEC solenoid, VTEC oil pressure, and the knock sensor. The wires are obviously not in my stock harness so I need to add wires for each of these. Do I just do it like this?:
Sorry for the pic, LOL. You get the idea. If this is right, then what kind of wire do I use and where can I get extra pins?

Yeah thats basically how it is.
Match the gauge wire to whats stock on the engine. I think honda's are like 16-18 for the misc. sensors and stuff. You can buy honda style pins that will fit in the sensors at the dealer as well.

You mean the "stealership"? Do you have any links or site that would sell them? I don't wanna drive out there just to pay like 15 bucks for a little baggie of like 4 pins.

That's cool, but I don't need to do an OBD conversion. Both the car and engine are OBD 1 so I don't think that is the right thing for me. Anyone know how I would use that?
