Compression will be kind of low, and it won't run that great with a GSR computer. If you do it right, and tune it with a different VTEC point and maybe a different tranny, it should do decent.

Haha...I just got my 97 usdm itr head today...it is in great shape.
Your compression would drop to under 10.1 and that is not good as the type r cams need more compression than that...you should like it was said change your computer and raise the vtec point to that of a stock r.
I am going to rebuild my bottom end and put usdm itr pistons in to raise the compression and maybe even a 2 layer head gasket. As for the tranny, the itr is better but the gsr is decent. You should see a good gain from the swap(including the IM). I am going to hopefully do mine in a couple of months.

Mill the head slightly, the GSR manifold will not bolt up, you will need the ITR manifold, or get a machine shop to drill new bolt holes on the GSR manifold.
<edit>The heads flow about the same, so why not just get the ITR cams instead of the entire head?

I have looked around about the head gasket deal, using c-speeds calculator if I go with a single head gasket the compression will be above stock (10.26:1), with a 2 piece it will be (10.03:1), so that should take care of compression.

i disagree with alot of what people said above.
You dont need ALOT of compression w/ ITR cams. On my b20vtec motor with stock bottom end 9.96:1 compression... i went from 165 peak whp to 180 peak whp with over 50whp midrange gain from adjusting FPR w/ the ITR cams!!!!!!!!! HUGE improvment... HUGE!
my thoughts on milling the head...
bad idea as well, then you need to get cam gears and pay to get that tuned
my thoughts on thinner headgasket
same essence, yet keeping the retail value of you head up(who wants to buy a milled head)
my thoughts on turning down fuel pressure because of less compression
first off, you are talking about .2 compression, woopdy do. 2nd off, you'd need a dyno to adjust your fuel pressure, and my guess is you'd need more fuel because of the more agressive cams.
my thoughts on stock GSR ecu.
chipped p28 stock GSR ecu w/ type R head
Dont get me wrong, a GSR ecu will work, just wont perform as well as a chipped P28

my thoughs exactly, i got about the same results in my b20. using a two layer head gasket and gsr cams, if you want more power from the bottom end do some upgrades. put some ctr pistons in, if you want more compression! my .02C

Re: 97' JDM ITR head on GSR (smokey2.0)
im glad i read what u said bout ITR head swap on a GSR. i was thinking of doing that. not anymore. sounds like such a pain in the *** to do and so many adjustments. my civic with the swap is a daily driver. i cant have it sitting around while im walking. so, does that go the same for a b16 head? would that be easier to do than the itr head swap?
