I have a guy that's wanting to trade cars with me. What he's offering me is this car
http://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/2284444400.html
I know you can't judge custom car by the KBB so I thought I'd ask experts at this.

Probably worth a bit more than 10k with high miles. his mods, though not the best of anything, are respectable for what they are. The system, coilovers, wheels, and newer soft top make it worth a bit more IMO. Though generally, mods shouldn't make a car worth more, if he parted the coils, system, and wheels out he would probably get 1500-2000$ out of it.

that's not good, I guess you could get it and skip 5th and go straight to 6th from 4th. Skip shifting is great for this car, it tears up the syncros and dog ears the front edge of the gear teeth.

That must have been what the original owner did, since most people who don't really understand how a manual transmission works. They get into one of these cars get going from redline to redline look down and realize that, holy crap I am going pretty fast, eh just skip over 5th and go straight to 6th since I am up to speed. This happens a lot when people are new to the car and getting on an on ramp. To fix it could be costly so be warned.

My honest opinion, walk away and find something else, no 5th gear? what other problems could there be? best bet is to find one as close to stock as you can and mod yourself....but if you really like this car, find out how much it would be for you to get 5th gear back, then make a decision

Is no 5th gear a major problem? Otherwise car looks great, interior, new top w/glass, engine replaced and has 80k on it, chassis has 170K he says

Are you trolling?

Yea, Honda added 5th for the lulz. I'd say a broken trans is a major problem.

I see transmission on ebay from $500, I figure it wouldn't be hard to swap it out myself

then get it...you seem pretty set on that decision anyway regardless of what we're all saying...it not worth 10 grand, id say 7 max given its not the original motor and it needs a tranny, but you obviously know more than us so go for it

be glad you didnt buy it, when you purchase something, you want the BEST in quality...no 5th gear and an engine swap should make you ask why??? 170 chassis miles is too much for 9k or 10k, consider yourself lucky
