Default Vanity Light installed. . .

As you guys know it's really really dark inside the cabin at night with the top up....

Ever since I saw it in my dad's GS at night I wanted it... A Vanity light (I believe its called...TL's have em too....) It's a tiny Single LED which shines on the shifter area and provides enough light just to get a sense of where things are inside the cabin at night....It isn't bright enough to distract the driver either....

Here is a before and After shot:

Barely ANY light. .

After...Nice White light...looks classy IMO, easy to see the shifter and whatever else you have in your center consle....

It was a cheap and easy install....
(1) 3.6 V 5mm (or 3mm....i forget) White LED
(1) LED holder (tiny black plastic holder, just drill one hole and push the LED in from the back
(1) 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistor
Some wire (grounded to the screw that holds the light fixture in place, and positive lead I ran to the Illumination circuit...got it from behind the face....)

Like or no likey?

very nice. Would be cool to link with the mirror lights to come on when you unlock the car.

Got any more info on where/how you installed?

Nice idea, but personally, I've never had trouble finding the shifter or anything else inside of the cabin.

Now, how about an illuinated cup holder? I never use it for cups, but do keep random things in there.

yeah, please add pics of the install.

i was thinking the same thing the other day, how dark the interior is. not sure if it was a good thing or not, it just was. theres really nothing i need to look at in the interior while driving. i like the fact the radio door hides the radio.

the only thing that ever becomes an issue is passengers having a hard time finding the door handle. is there enough illumination to point that out? i actually thought of adding a LED just for the door... wouldnt be hard to mount inside the door panel and powered by the wires for the door locks. the light would simply leak out behind the handle.

o wow it actually does look kinda classy. I never thought it was too dark inside though, but definitely a good option. O yea...I do have some friends that complain about how dark the cabin is at night though...i never knew what the issue was...I kind of like it that way, rather than a whole bunch of lights that would distract me. I've seen it before in the TL and they have it in the TSX, which my bro drives...and it looks pretty nice. The one in my bro's tsx is kind of a neon blue color that illuminates the cabin, looks really nice. I think its the same for the TL as well (color wise).

i think the vanity light idea started with audi's. maybe some other car had it, but i first saw it in an A4. it was red.

sure ill get some daytime pics whenever i have time....

but like someone mentioned on s2ki....the key is recessing the LED enough....if its not pushed in far enough the light from the bulb will distract you....if you push it back into the holder enough you can barely see the light coming from the source, and it just illuminates the shifter/console area.....

so you basically took that out, drilled a hole and put some epoxy to bond it in?

Infiniti and BMW did footwell lighting too which I think is cool for the S2000. Some white LED's or neon tubes(plain white wouldnt be ricey) would help light up the cabin too...
