strange hum
so my buddy has an s2000 and i took off the top of the air box to check the filter (he's still got the stock air setup) but anyways.....after doing that and moving some of the hoses around there is an audible tone now. it seemed to be coming from the cone filter. i took off the intake pipe (from the manifold) and the sound went quieted dramatically but is still there. the tube was just amplifying the sound. the sound goes away when the throttle body is opened, but once back colsed (or at idle) the sound comes back.......any ideas what this is??? it didn't do this before, so we're tryin to figure out what it is. sorry for the long post.
thats pretty much normal. Just put the lid back on, and it'll be to a minimal. Also, is your resonance chamber plugged? After i did the chamber box mod, it's been humming since but i like it
what is haapening is your friends car has an engine, engines make sounds, this is one of them...this is one reason factorys close up the intake and use plastics and paper, to muffle the sound...
this is why we add intakes...to make the sound louder

it's not coming from the filter setup....i'm not retarded i know engines make sounds and hums of all sorts.this is why i hate honda-tech people think other people are retarded. all i'm sayin is even with the lid on and what not, this sound was NOT there before. it's not like a hum....it's like a tone similar to what they use on like the emergency broadcast system. i was just wondering because it wasn't there before even with the stock air setup untouched.

maybe one of the hoses inched away from where it was placed before or...maybe by moving on eof the hoses it was corroded enough that when you moved one it produced a hole in the hose? i dont know man. Cause and Effect, is all i can say. Sounds like one of those things where your doing something and you go to do something else extra (moving hoses) and then something happens(the noise). Its happened to me but differently. Hope it goes away.

well according to your original post the intake tube just amplified the sound, u made it sound like the sound was coming from inside the engine via the intake manifold to your ear...which means its coming from the engine...whats the ******* problem?
if it was a hose u would be able to hear the air perforating with your ear near the hose...

this really gave me a headache captain redundtant....u took out the filter and moved hoses around(for some reason) then asked a bunch of guys over the internet why your friends car is humming, i tell u in simple terms its normal, u get offended at my response to ur vague going nowhere question....then u change the sound to a "tone"
and im an ***

so i'm retarded about cars...so what? i said tone in the first post. and just cuz i say tone...and then "sound" doesn't mean anything...a tone is an audible sound. but whatever. i'll be retarded. just don't be an *** about it. some of us may not know much about cars and their little tones/sounds. that's why i asked the question in the first place. got me no where. and i know what you're gonna say so don't bother "shut up captain redundant" well get off your high horse loser. i'm tryin to learn things the same as everyone else.
the point is u cant go online and ask someone why your car is humming...at the best all u will get is a guess that wont help u out as u found out by it going away neway...if u need advice on parts or setups or strengths and weakness' then online guys can help...
call any mechanic shop and tell them your car has a hum see what they tell u
