Default Oil question ***UPDATED***

UPDATE!!!!

If I were to drive for about 1 month with out an oil cap, wouldn't oil come spitting out of the opening. Would a CEL be triggered?

I just took my S2K in for its 45,000 check and they claim there was no oil cap and charged me $8.00 for a new one. Then later that day I hear and feel a vibration comming from behind the motor. I take it back, and its the oil cap, the lost one. It was wedged next to the tranny. So they charged me another $40 to remove it.

Now I had the oil changed about a month ago. Seems like I would have been able to smell oil or get a CEL if it was missing. They claim that there is some kind of baffel that would prevent the oil from flying out and they did have to wipe up oil from the top of the motor. The lost oil cap could have been knocked into a position like that from the car being up on the lift. Seems like it should have been knocked around a lot more in every day driving.

Any thoughts?

They shouldn't have charged you **** if they did the previous oil change.

Yeah, unfortunately 1 company did the Oil change and 1 month later a different shop did this 45,000 mile check.

I had a friend who lost his oil cap and his oil didnt splatter out any. A missing oil cap wouldnt throw a cel. Sounds like the mechanic loosened it before the change and had it fall off during the lift and forgot about it and said it was never there.

I wonder if the category they charged that time to is called the "Rape you in the ***" section. Couldn't you get it out yourself?

I didn't even know what it was that was making the noise. I could not see it down there that is for sure. They could only see it by lifting the car apparently.

UPDATE!!!!!

I went back to them, Lee Rollins Firestore in Miramar, CA. I talked at length with an assistant MGR and talked to him about the situation. He told me that they never lifted the hood so they could not have do this. So I pointed out that THEY were the ones that told me it was "missing" in the first place. He contradicted himself a couple times, so told me that he is just stupid, thinks, I'm stupid, or has no idea what is going on. (which is therefore stupid) Anyway I got him to refund my money that they charged to get the cap, "unstuck" from the tranny& firewall. He also told me to never come back, except to come and get my refund. ($42.00) About 1 hour later I received a call from the Manger and he reiterated some of what the *** MGR said. He was able to refund me over then phone and send the receipt to my home. He also envited me back to do business in the future and does want my business.

Not sure I'll ever go back. The only thing that still bothered me was that I was never accusing them of doing something wrong. All my conversations with all parties envolved were extremely civil on both ends. They just never considered that they could have made a mistake. But the refund me, which is all I was going for.
