Where the hell did my oil go?
1998 Civic LX. I changed my oil yesterday. I drained it out, changed the filter, and filled it back up. Then, when I went to drain the pan into the oil containers... I only had half a quart of oil! I put 3.8 quarts back in. I'm nearly positive that I am not burning oil. No black smoke coming out of my exhaust. My exhaust is white very little of it. I'm not leaking oil, I park in the same place everyday and not a drop of oil underneath it. I see no evidence of oil leaking out of my motor anywhere, the underside of it is very clean. Also, my low oil indicator NEVER has come on. So, where the hell did my oil go?

hmmm maybe you drained the tranny instead of the oil? *shrug*
sounds like you were low in oil and simply had .5 quarts to begin with. Didn't you watch the oil come out when you drained your pan? either that or your oil container has a leak.

Wouldn't my low oil light have been on constantly?

perhaps you were on the median of "Check oil" and not. so you never got the light.
or the sensor is bad.
*shrug* I'm at a loss, I still think u were low to start with. and half quart coming out of your container, thats unusual, maybe it was more than that and it just seemed like .5. Did you realize that you drained so little BEFORE or DURING you draining the container?

Re: Where the hell did my oil go? (Pritos)
I drained it out into a pan, then I poured the pan into a one quart oil container and it was half full. It seemed that not very much was coming out. The car was on level ground. I'm really not sure, I think it might have been leaking, but I see no evidence of that. I don't think I am burning oil, I have never seen any blue smoke come out of my exhaust. It's weird. I am nearly positive that I put the same amount of oil in the first time, it's hard to mess that up heh.

I don`t think he`s that dumb...I mean c'mon, it aint brain surgery to empty the oil. BTW, it was the bolt under the oil pan right???
If I remember correctly, the trans oil plug has to be removed using an allen or a straight drive, no? I forget....
