ap1 and ap2 differential!
so i heard that s2000 most common problem is the differential. Is this due to the weak build of this part or due to reckless driving? i have friends that blew their diff even if it was normally driven. Because i want to look into this before i get one and since you guys experienced in S2000, i thought i can get some help here. any input(s) will greatly appreciated!
if it's been hard launched many times then the diff will often be the first thing to go. Normal, spirited driving won't harm it, just them launches really..
i see cause im afraid that the previous owner will abuse it and then i get the crap for it.. so then what aftermarket diff would be best for heavy duty handling like hard lunch and reliability? does anyone here have a comptech diff?
on my old set up I was making 310ish and never had any diff problems but I never launched. I know some other people boosting on the stock. This is a weak link and the worse part is the inlinepro diff kit is over 3K and no one else really makes a kit....
If you do not launch it like a moron then you should have no problems with the diff. Either baby it of the line or drop it high enough to spin the tires before catching. The perfect grab launch=broken diff.
I wouldnt base the decision to buy the car off the diff and how it "could" have been driven previously. Buy a decent condition one with low miles and as long as you dont launch it you'll be fine. Yes, the diff is the weak link, but 95% of the people that blow them up knew it was coming. It wasnt the guy that daily drives his S2k coasting down interstate at 70mph that has it blow up. Not saying that hasnt ever happened, but its so rare I wouldnt worry about it.
