Advice?
Hey everyone. Yeah, i'm new to this forum, but i've been around for a while. I've owned a few cars in my life, a teg, a legend, a bora, even a chevy and a dodge. My last car was (and in a way still is) a 1.8T Jetta/Bora. My wife started driving and my flawless ride got smacked twice in one week. After the second incident, i said f@#k it, its yours and gave her my set of keys. Now i dont even want to look at it. Anyway, i am thinking of something else to buy for myself. I am not new to honda and i've had my eye on an S2000 for a while now. Before i reach for my checkbook, i wanted to ask you guys a few questions:
I am a big fan of the teg's manual tranny as it is one of the best ones i've ever experienced, is S2K on par or even better?
How much torque does the S2K pack and what RPM is it available at? (I'm a bit spoiled with low-end torque after the 1.8T)
What are the worst aspects of owning an S2k?
Is there an advantage in looking for a pre-owned S2K with under 12k miles or should i avoid pre-owned and just buy it new?
What are the problem/reliability issues with the S2K if any?
What realiable and inexpensive mods are available to increase the power output on the S2K?
What are dealers charging for it these days?
Thank you in advance.

Tranny... Better.
Worst aspects? Mucho attention. It can be good or bad however.
Torque? Google is your friend..
Preowned? Yeah, it's always a good idea. I'd get a 2002 or up though. You get a glass rear window instead of plastic (there are several other differences though, do a search).
Reliability? I don't think so. Just check your oil often. Especially within the first 6,000 miles, the s2000 burns oil like mad.
Mods are expensive imo. The s2000 is pretty finely tuned from the factory. Intake, Exhaust, Header, etc. don't really make that much HP.
Dealers are charging around 33,000. You may be able to get a new one for 30-31k + tax/licensing.

Thats a lot of questions, so I'll just keep it short.
-The tranny on the s2k is the best I've felt. The shifts are well placed and smooth. 00-01 has a 2nd gear grind issue that effects about 1 in 50 1-2 shifts I make.
-153lb-ft @ 7500rpm... it sucks. Stay above 6500 and you'll be okay though.
-Pre-owned is nice because they're substantially cheaper, but you have to imagine it was driven pretty hard. And while its a reliable car, things can happen when abused.
-The roof clips wear down fast and make a bit of wind noise. Apart from that and the tranny grind on the older models, there's not really anything major. There was a lubrication issue, but it happened in a very select few models.
-The s2k doesn't relaly have an inexpensive mods =\ just the normal bolt on's, but they're still a bit pricier than for Civic's and such. There are a few reasonable superchargers out there.
-as low as $22k used and as high as $34k new

Why black on black? I dont know, i guess it just looks damned mean and will look great with the unpainted carbon fibre lip and HT.
If you dont mind, what are the car's weak points. How is the tranny holding up to hard launches, etc.?
Thanks.

The only weak point I've heard of or seen is the rearend but that is typically only an FI cars so you really don't have much to worry about. This is a great car that you will get a lot of enjoyment out of. Just make sure you ask where the fuel filler lever is
i bought my 2000 black/black about a year ago with 42,000miles and the only problem that i occasionally get is the 1-2grind when dirving hard [racing]. The only thing i would suggest is to look for a 2002+ model, because i wish i had a glass window instead of plastic. If you haven't looked at http://www.s2ki.com already, go check it out. they have a "cars for sale" forum where you can find some really good deals on used s2k's...
...and good color choice
here's mine

Only weak points are the clutch and diff if you launch the car a lot. If you are nice to them, they will be nice to you!
Black/Black is a very common color combo, so it should not be hard to find.
I am partial to the silver/red though.....
